CAMCORDERS: EX-1 turns off and on intermittant

I know the Ex-1 is an old camera but it still works for a number of situations and i just had a major problem and solution that i figured i should post .
i was about to use it for a shoot and found that when i turned it on it would turn itself off then on again repeatedly .
Turns out if i touched the camera-off-media switch that would trigger it , so I figured that the switch was dirty but after trying to access it by taking off the plate screws ( that didn't work) as a last resort I just poured DeoxIt D5 all over the switch, then worked it back and forth for about 5 minutes and left it to dry overnight .
This morning I was pleasantly surprised to find the problem was gone. Yay!
BTW DeoxIt D5 is great stuff for cleaning electrical contacts.

I no longer have an EX1 but curiously enough I had the exact same issue!

I currently have an EX3 that I keep (just for fun and its "retro" visual style, at least now), so good to know this if the issue ever appears on this camera.

Good one. Well done! Always keep a can of Servisol Electrical Clean and Lube in amongst my rubbish. Have recovered camera on/off switches, VF connectors, mixer sliders, ENG mixer gain pots and countless other 'electrical issues' with it.

I read something on an old post I think here that someone just sprayed the cleaner around the switch as a preventative.
Maybe a good idea on the EX-3. The problem seems to be very common .
I don't think of the Ex-1 for "retro-style" - just for ease of use where no one cares about the style and HD is OK .

Above all its instructional to know you can clean a switch without even getting real access. That was a surprise.
