Europe HVX200E

I'm not sure, I agree with you. I do see more "detail" for example on the sheet of paper at the bottom of the frame, you can barely make out "AS LOW AS 4.50%" in the 1080p grab, the same printing is less legible on the the 720p grab.
That´s exactly what I was referring to when I said that to me the resolution of 1080 seems to be slightly better! (I uprezzed both pix to the same resolution in Photoshop for a direct comparision)

YES, XRAY, YESSSS!!!!! NO MORE 1080 VERSUS 720 DISCUSSION HERE!!!:)

May I ask to keep this thread so HVX Europe PAL related as possible?
And not burried under in a 1080 versus 720 discussion? :dankk2:

Here a HVX200E-relatet question: Would it be very complicated to implement 50p AND 60p in a single camera? That would be a great deal for me having that option and being able to produce for the european market, too.

This has been debated alot, turns out they couldn't do it easily and without adding to cost mainly and time of release of course, at least that's what I've heard of.

Colors will still alias in the horisontal direction. Depending on the implementation of the Decompressor colors might need to be smoothed.
Apples DVCPRO HD codec does not smooth color but will alias. Just apply a 1 pixel horisontal blur to the CB and CR channels and they wont alias. Avids DVCPRO codec does smooth.

...and let me humbly respond my question about the lack of 60p in the european HVX myself: go and read the thread "no 24f in PAL HVX200"

I wouldn't expect any customer in Europe or other PAL countries, even seeing an HVX200E on demo before the end of march, though I'd really like to be proved wrong.

16th March, one day to launch, and nothing.Niente. Nada. Rien de Rien. Nicles. Mou ar...
Dear SPZ, this sunday (19 march) I probably will have access to Hvx200 pal (?) at expo in Rome, not sure at 100% (just received an invite from a italian company), but if I got some news I'll report here. It's a long travel because I live in Naples and to reach Rome I need various hours with train...
Hope to see Canon Xl H1 and Xdcam Hd f-350 too (I'm really excited too for Sony camera and believe, if you not considering price difference, will be the only that take some interest about overcrankin' stuff capabilities) , but I've some serious doubts 'bout they allowing me to touch 'em...
Unfortunately...I've never operated with entry-level camera, played only with consumer camera a lot of time ago, but never intrigued with that stuff 'coz I wanna THE serious thing to start!
But considering I've seen various Kaku Ito videos when he plays with the camera, and I've read a lots of theory stuff here and there so I know very well how the little monster works :)
Many thanks to this community!

Danilo, here are a couple of suggestions for your Rome day of (hopefully) testing (and some tips from a DVX owner and user which might apply to the HVX :) )

1st- Don't forget to take your laptop, and possibly a firewire cable. This is essential for you to get footage from ALL cameras.

2nd- Ask for the possibility of connecting to a HD display- don't look at the LCD footage only

3- Don't forget, all these cameras give you the signal trough component out BEFORE actual compression. So what you see on the monitor in realtime with the camera connected is NOT the final look of the footage (except if you are going uncompressed from the component outs)

4- Shoot footage of PEOPLE. This is what matters. Films are about people, and they have to look the best. compare shots with people, not dead objects!

5- On the HVX, try comparing both 1080p and 720p footage on a capable HD screen. Please report on the picture!

6- Don't loose your focus on all the beautiful ladies in Rome!... Ok, shoot some footage of those babes for us! :)

7- On the Menu, in the HVX, try going for the Scene File menu, then select the different frame rates- theres a post explaining how to work with this somewhere around here! Also, try messing around with the Master Ped setting. It'll give you nice contrasty looks when you go to - levels...

8- Try the Manual zoom on the HVX. Have you seen any Bruce lee movies or 70'ies Hong Kong Kung Fu movies? You can achieve those type of "Crash" zooms (very fast zooms) with this camera. Funny and great for that "24" reality look.

And, last, but not least, enjoy your experience ! :)

Spz I've a laptop (a notebook), but it's of my sister, it has a pmcia slot (I must see in the other room). I believe that she doesn't allow me takin' the notebook with me 'coz it's a gift of his boyfriend, ya know :) In july they will be married!

I can install P2 viewer and P2 drivers into, but I dunno if it has the power to download the footage at accettable speed.

I'll buy a Powerbook or a Macbook (if they adds a pmcia port and make a 17" model) and if I purchase this camera.
Actually I've an old pc workstation and other pro stuff (A3 scanner and A3+ printer) Wacom Cintinq 18sx (I must buy also a Cintiq 21ux, this 18sx sucks).
I'll buy also a Powermac or better (intel supposed to be out in summer), I've studied much theories and save a lots of money...for years...

It should have no problem. The only problem you could get would be capturing the footage trough firewire directly from the camera, but file transfer shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you can bring a USB cable with you, too, since the camera also transfers by USB (and PC's are usually faster with USB2).

FREUDENBERG_FILMS I'm pretty sure that here in Italy, sunday, I will find an Hvx200 but not sure if it's Pal or Ntsc. I've received an advertsing with photos of Hvx200 and Mac, in this email it's written "to demonstrate (at expo) how they work togheter..."
Kinda mysterious isn't it? :)

Well I've just spoke to CKE (in the UK) and I've got some news.

They tell me that yes indeed for the PAL HVX200 you can buy from them the HVX + 100gig Firestore for £4995 (exc VAT) - note this is with no P2 cards. They have spoken to Panasonic UK and they say the delivery is going to be next week, but Panasonic couldn't give them an exact date, but said definitely sometime next week.

We're down on the list to get one + firestore, and I'm part-exchanging the DVX100. For the current corporate work I have the tapeless workflow will be a major bonus, and for the feature we have lined up to make this Summer we really need the variable frame rates which the HD100 can't offer and our colorist and DP want 4:2:2.

Ciao Danilo!
Stop kidding, i mean you got the invitaton, so go and see the baby in rome!(HOPEFULLY THE PAL!)
.Fare travel from naples?man, i did this travel a lot of times, and its 3 and half hour in the slow train!!-so go there by IC and see rome in 2 and half hours..enjoy!

Hopefully they wil deliver the cam from 24th....i just cross fingers, but its crazy that we hear nothing about the Pal model..!

Anyway..did anyone order P2 cards with the cam in europe?
Or are u all going with the firestore?
Guess its hard to get some cards right now...!!

Firestore all the way, 100gigs of pure Firestore goodness.

I'm gonna be completely cardless...

At least till the bigger cards start appearing.

Don't you guys think that getting a Firestore the minute it comes out, is a bit risky considering no formal testing or review has been done and no other professionals from the industry tested its robustness etc. I mean we are (Pal territories) really lucky because we had (and still having) that for like 3 months with the HVX. Take a look at the feedback from pro's, semi-pro's and plain users, it's huge and really helpful to all of us. Don't you think that one should wait a bit for a 2000€+ investment? Just your opinion.
