Europe HVX200E

Yeah, been checking it out from time to time, I hate it that is says 'preliminary" all the time and that it doesn't display release or shipping date the minute it's supposed to be shipping in days from now, the sooner we get our cams the better but it'd be nice to have a date.

At least DV's color quantizing is listed wrong.
Funny that there's no mention about 4:2:2, as that have been the marketing slogan.

(Why was my reply deleted? Just curious! )
Maybe thats why it is "preliminary", they didnt figure that out...:)
It should be DV = 4:2:0 and DVCpro50 4:2:2 with 1:3,3 compression.

But thats under the VTR section which refers to the DV deck only. Still wrong though...

The preliminary HVX-200e PDF is correctly stating 4:2:0 for the VTR, but also states that 720p25 is "(over 60p)" which is wrong....

WAIT- this could be the surprise of the PAL HVX. 720p60- why? Because there's still no non-linear editing device that can cope with 720p 50, except with an expensive 3rd party opton like Kona Cards or Matrox axios.

Wait - is that correct? 48fps is an option in the variable framerates? That would be 24p with every other frame discarded in post... :)

Of course I don't know what use is 24p if you're not doing a filmout, and why would you do a filmout from 720p-material...

..and with jerkier motion while panning or having moving objects, because you only have half of the exposure time which results in less motion blur.

because you might shoot a commercial spot for theatrical release. they demand 24p unless they have a digital projector.

I bet by mid-April Apple will have a 5.05 update to FCP for that frame rate additions specifically...

With 48p and 360° shutter and dropping every other frame you get exactly the same than with film camera with 24p and 180° shutter (normal setting with film).

Can you convert 720p50"over60" to "real"720p50 eg. with Cinema Tools?
Do you just edit 720p50"over60" with FCP and then output somehow to "real"720p50?
My guess is we'll have to wait for update to FCP...

that ,720p50 (over 60) is clearly an error left in the PDF when they modified the HVX-200 brochure into the HVX-200E Brochure.

Anders posted this on another thread, which I thought was informative. I'll repost it because the other thread has turned into a debate about the ethics of private messaging:

Yes, there is a good chance that the codecs will have increased horizontal resolution 1440x1080 and just maybe 1280x720. But because of the resolution of the CCD's you should not expect any gain in Luma res. But increased Chroma res (100 extra horisontal pixels in 1080) is pretty nice....

As I was saying, the slight upping in resolution would make me feel my wallet hadn't been stolen - should I take the decision to aquire the (much more expensive than in the US) PAL HVX200 when it's released in the UK.

Price with Firestore and VAT is £5869. I'll be paying £874 in taxes! What I could do with that extra money.

JanBee, I think people mostly use 1/48 (1/50 PAL) shutter speed anyway, so wouldn't the result be the same?

Personally though I like the look 1/25 shutter speed gives to 25p material in certain types of fiction shoots.

But yeah, you're right - shooting 24p for theatrical commercials is a very viable commercial option for this camera. But I think 25p converted to 24p is gonna go just fine for that.

Still no news? We are on the 14th! 3 daYS untill the launch date! This looks worse than an Apple announcement!
