EUROPE - A small vacation

you had some nice DOF shots, did you use a 35 adapter? I am fearing the need to buy one, I am still hanging on the belief I can achieve shallow DOF shots with the standard lens.....:kali:
 
ahhh.. so you went for the M2. Can you give us a full report when you got it? I'm still saving up after buying somemore crap for the HVX.. I had to get somemore P2s...

Were ya tired of waiting for the cinemek mysterious adapter that's been in permanent limbo?
 
Yes I was very tired of waiting for the Cinemek - I gave up on them after I sent Jonathan an email asking the status again, oh well - I really hope they get their stuff together because I think they have a really cool look w/ the G35 - The m2 has really evolved from their inception and B Valente's customer support and enthusiasm really sealed the deal for me - I've seen some awesome video from dvxusers produced w/ that thing - It should be coming in within a week or so, after I run around with it I'll definetly post some video and a report - so far I only have a 28mm and a 50mm nikkor - should be fine though - I should have bought more p2 cards also but one is still doing ok for me at the moment -
 
sweet. I'd also get a longer lens.. maybe a 135mm or something then you'd be pretty well covered.


Barbs at AVS sold me my last P2 for 568... prices are coming down.

richard, weren´t you a little worried about using an expensive camera in places like subways and streets, alone? i´m thinking about a trip to europe with my Z1, that´s why i´m asking it. you know, i´m brazilian and i have to think about these issues.

Gumonstro, I wasn't too worried - I have insurance so if someone stole it I would be covered when I traveled back home - I like the HVX because it's small - people were giving me stares though as I shot, I didn't look like the typical tourist - I have insurance with state farm by the way, it runs $150 every six months - regular renter's insurance

So yeah, the more I see from this camera, the more I think it's the one I'm gonna get. How much of your final product is the HVX and how much is post (color correcting, filters, and those damned expensive addons)? I'm all for tweaking and getting the right look, but I just need to see if I should budget for other programs too. (And if I should buy a Mac or a PC and Avid or FCP and bla bla bla).

I still want to take your camera for a spin though, sometime. ;)

95% of those shots are color corrected - I use FCP 5.0 - the 3way color corrector is great - I would buy a mac, it's a nice companion for the camera and for your love life - I shot all this stuff with just the bare bones camera, no addons or anything like that - you can get a dual 2ghz G5 tower for like 800-1200 if you shop around - I am running on a single 1.8 ghz g5 - 1080 stutters but editing 720 is breezy

when i get into my new apartment you can come by and look at my goodies - this stuff looks a lot better viewing it native also

buy one already you rich ba$tard!!!

Nice stuff, it saved me a plane ticket... Just a heads up, insurance companies are much more discerning now regarding consumer gear and pro gear that is used for making $$$. This may be even more true with renters insurance. The HVX screams "pro camera- used professionally". Many insurance companies require an extra rider for this kind of gear or professional insurance.

I had an nikon F3 stolen from my house 5 years ago( same dirtbag broke in three times- caught him and he went to jail...) , and the insurance company grilled me long and hard as to whether it was used professionally . The cost of my then 16 year old F3 pales in comparison to an HVX.

A word to the wise.
