Error with importing P2 into FCP

Has anyone else had an issue with importing clips into FCP at times? Sometimes I'll get an error message such as: 34 clips were recognized and 3 clips were not recognized.

That's not the exact message, I'll get it verbatim when I head up to the office tomorrow.

Basically, its saying a few files are corrupted. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough that it needs to be figured out.

It happens with both my HVXs and with any P2 cards.. any ideas?

If you import directly from the P2 cards, that may be why. The consensus is that on a Mac, you should first copy the P2 card contents to your hard drive and import from there.

The exact reasons are not fully understood (certainly not by me), but that's the recommended procedure.

Yea, I copy the P2 to the PowerBook. Weird.

On a side note, does anyone know why Apple doesn't have a P2 slot in the new MacBooks? We're constantly on the road, and that P2 slot made it easy to dump footage into.

Apple likes Express

Apple likes Express

I believe Apple is making a push for the ExpressCard instead. I believe the ExpressCard is quite a bit better and is far faster bandwidth. However if you're an HVX owner, that's not much solice. I think there was some mention that there might be a possibility of bring back the PCMCIA slot for future laptop releases. But until you see it officially announced or available in store its all speculation. Its been a complaint though by several of the board contributors here.

cheers.

I am encountering the same error message and can't seem to find any viable solutions on line. I have attempted importing from the P2 card directly, from a copy on an external drive, and even attempted to copy back to the desktop as someone indicated that worked. I am running FCP 5.1.1 and Quicktime Pro 7.1. Is it possible this is a hardware issue? I am using a Titanium G4 with a 1 gig processor but only 512 ram. I would think the hardware would only compromise playback. Any thoughts concerning this seemingly insurmountable dilemma?

Thanks I'll roll the bones and add another 512 DIMM which is unfortunately the
extent of my G4's expansion capability. On an related question, if I transfer the
data to PC and use Premiere Pro 2.0 will there be an increased permanent loss
of the high definition quality when the file is exported or does the program have a similar codec solution?

Try putting the contents/lastclip.txt back onto the CARD and make sure all of the clips that you are missing play correctly.. Sometimes you have a clip that runs onto another card, or a clip that becomes to large for a FAT32 formatted drive... Then try it on someone elses computer..
