Err 80

I kept getting a err 80 on a shoot today, what is it and does anyone know what causes it and how to prevent it?

A couple of points:

I was shooting on a jib so I had a 12' HDMI-MINI to HDMI cable [first time I used such a long cable], and a new Canon battery. I rebooted the first two times by turning off and removing the battery, when it did it again I replaced the batter but it still did gave me the error 80 message.

err80 is a shutter error. IF clearing it by battery removal doesnt work it may need servicing.

Removing the battery does reset it. It makes a fast clicking sound, sounds kind of like a shutter.

This camera is brand new. Where do you take it for service?

If you keep getting the error, it might be easier to return it for another one instead of sending it in for service unless you're past the time window. Otherwise, you'll want to contact Canon and find out where the nearest service center is.

I got exactly the same problem, and seems to me like the error 80 appears when there's an unpowered HDMI monitor connected to it. Can anyone confirm this? I have a 7D and ikan v5600 monitor.

I actually received this error WITH a powered HDMI monitor. Amazon overnighted me a brand new 7D though, without me even sending my malfunctioned camera first. So I got lucky. Honestly - I've been seeing people get this error in many different scenarios.
