FEATURE: Epitaph: Bread and Salt Feature film

Depends on who you know. Trust your gut. Where do you think you can profit more based on what and who you know? but even if I don't think I can get distribution, I send screeners out anyway (make sure you prepare them properly so they aren't stolen or uploaded to pirate sites) just to see what they say about them. Try to get into Slamdance and there's tons of horror festivals around. Keep going until someone buys or if you can get the money go to the film markets. There's a lot of horror films there, but you may be able to make some money. That would be best if you could afford it. Keep in mind it's all random. I mean we had a guy who really wanted to get "Wages of Sin" in Germany. According to him they really love American action films and they'd have no problems with subtitles. But they also have a lot of people shooting the same kind of film in HD. With an HD master they could put the film in theaters if they thought it was good enough, with a DV master this wasn't possible, so his buyers said no. So it can go any way. Sometimes a sale is made (or not) on the small things. If we has shot "Wages of Sin" on a cheap HD camera even at 60i and went to 24p in post, it could've very well have ended up in German rental houses are possibly on some screens. Who knows. "The Fourth Beast" sold several thousand copies between various African countries, Indonesia and if I remember correctly China. But they lost the M&E tracks so who knows how many would've actually sold. Then again it was distributed by you know who, so we may never know how many actually sold.

did you have to hire an attorney when you did distribution for the fourth beast? were there tons of extra costs involved for you?

Nope. We did everything through them. They openly accept screeners from anyone. Although if you hire an attorney you may have a better chance a better distribution. Big distributors don't usually accept random screeners because of legal reasons.

Thanks. When the adapter gets here then we'll really see what's going on. The streets are lit very well. In my old place I could run an extension cord from my window to the street. I don't think I can do that here without someone getting upset or being just a bit too nosy especially considering police are always around here because the station is nearby.

I want day tests also :-p

You can find day test all over Youtube. Infact we shot in the day for BTS footage. The HG10 is excellent in the day. Infact you'd have to make a really sucky camera not to be able to do good day work. But yes the HG10 is cheap (about $200 - $400 on eBay) and I've seen enough adapter footage (not to mention my own test when I had my original adapter) to know it's pretty solid, especially in the day. But considering there's a lot of vampires running around in this film, it I'm definitely interested in night shots. I've been using my flip to take location shots. If it looks good on a Flip at night then I'd be shocked it if didn't look good on the HG10.

I'm planning a shoot in Downtown Chicago where it's well lit. I want to see how the camera will function with the adapter and without. I have no problem shooting night shots without an adapter if I have too, but I believe there will be enough light. Keep in mind up until now we haven't really been shooting on the HG10 so this will actually be something pretty new.

Also I purchased a JVC PICSIO GC-FM1 just see what we can do with it. I want to see what it can do for the guerrilla filmmaker. I may get a Flip Mino HD just for updating my indiegogo and to do the work my SD Flip now does. The Kodak Zi6 and Zi8 came up too, but I don't think I'll be doing any voice work though the pocket cams.

Just some stuff we shot today. Sorry I've been neglecting the journal, but we're still going.
