FEATURE: Epitaph: Bread and Salt Feature film

Nice. I'm thinking about adding "prop master" to that list. I didn't add Blender because I'm not competent with it enough yet to use it on a production. AE I used in "Fourth Beast" and I'm using it in this one. I may even do some motion graphics.

Photo Day!

We photographed Marissa, Christian Creasy and myself, but the star of the day was Jenna who sat for close to five hours as the Zombie girl make up was applied for the first time by Savion Smith who also plays one of our vampires. You'll get to see some of the actual photos soon also. By the way, that guy with the camera? That's Adam Daniels, our DP. It's the first time I let someone DP one of our big projects.

keep going nate - and dont worry you'll get a better actress. Also the photoshoot went well I see

I agree. You'll get someone even better. We had a girl that was to play a major part in a scene and the day we were supposed to shoot, she just didn't show up. We called and called and she never answered or returned our calls. We got somebody else last minute and she was better than the first girl could have ever been. It worked out for the better and I can't wait for our film to be finished and the first girl is kicking herself in the face wishing she would have been in the film. At least your actress told you she didn't want to do it. Even though she was backing out after she made a commitment. I'd rather somebody do that than to just now show and not call after we have everything all set up.

Thanks guys. I've gotten a stream of ladies interested in playing Siren. I've seen a few who have a great look for the role. Speaking of streams, there's a whole poster stream in on the first page in the second post. There's four so far.

Nate, do you guys rent a place to do shooting? I've been trying to figure out a good inexpensive way to get some space to shoot with decent high ceilings in the city I live and just not sure what to do. Most studios around here are REALLY pricey and since I need to build sets over a few months time, I was wondering what others did. That space, if a little wider, would be perfect.

That's definitely the best poster you've ever done!
I agree, and you've had some good ones before, this one is really good though.

Thanks, I'm glad you guys like it. Check out the other ones on page 1 of this thread. This was a six hour build. Actually maybe about four when you take into account I had already done a completed version then scrapped it. The other one had a city background,, difference clouds, trains tracks and all that good stuff and I just couldn't get it to look how I wanted. I had the background image saved on my computer and also the texture I used as the floor. I had to figure out how to put it all together so it makes sense in my head. I was actually inspired by the "Book of Eli" and "Sucker Punch" posters. I wanted the character's names on the poster and a quote and a modern fantasy feel to them. I have three more to do actually.

It depends. If I have money, yes. We rented a few places in "Wages of Sin" and it really added a nice look to the film. Made it look more professional, not like we just shot in someone's white walled room. On this one we're just asking for a lot of favors. LOL. Also, a lot of actors have no problem letting you shoot at their place and feel pretty comfortable as long as no breaks anything. But rentals should be $25 - $50 a day if you really have to rent. One location I had for the day and had to get in and out because the place had actually been rented that day, so we had to shoot everything that day, no coming back. And that was the opening scene for "Wages of Sin". (It's posted here in the User Films forum somewhere).

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, I need to look for a place I can rent for about a month or two. I have some elaborate sets and false walls I need to construct. I also need power and AC as it gets hot around here in NC.

I am going to start putting out feelers. Someone must have some space sitting idle in this economy. Even if I secured about $400 a month I could do it for a few months if I saved up.

We are using a few homes, and an alley for my film, but these two sets are so futuristic, it is going to take a LOT more!!

Thought of that, but it really is so much easier to just build it :) I do use a lot of Maya and am getting pretty good with it, but I am finding something things a hammer and nails are just so much quicker! :)

That's all too true. I thought we were going to not have a location Thursday. The actress' BF suddenly wanted her for his project that day. But we talked and he's cool about it.

Poster definately looks cool - only thing I'd do is add more soft shadow around the feet. Maybe make a black elipse then overlay it around the toe and heel. Your feet stil don't look grounded, especially the right one seems to be floating. But I like the poster and the mood is perfect.

I fixed that. And upgraded The Fist of God poster because I could see problems with the old BG that was driving me crazy. I also made the Star of David earrings more pronounced. The new one is in the poster stream with the rest.

I agree with this as well. It pops out to my eye, but the rest of the poster is awesome.

If I were working on it, what i would do is push the boots down a tiny bit into the grass as that is what it looks like to me. Rotoscope some of the grass blades so they sit above the heal towards the bottom of the shoe. Should be REALLY easy to do honestly. Or, make him stand on some asphalt with a little brokenness to it, and then just make sure the edge between the shoe and the asphalt is not too sharp. Could be cool and add some more texture to the poster.

Like it a lot though.

I composite a lot so I recognize these things VERY quickly :)
