LOL! That is funny. He seems like a very nice person and his expertise is rock solid. Love Sir Bloom!

as i passed on the GH2 for a 5D2 i was wondering, was the GH2 as highly regarded straight out the box? or more so once it became hackable? any thoughts??
*hopefully
No one has the answers to questions 2 and 3 yet.
Its also worth remembering that PB shot with HMI, Ocon, unkown post, and a bunch of stuff that may not represent what the cam will do in the hands of those with less resources
As for the aliasing on the 3, don't expect for a hack to change anything in that regard
So childish. Does anybody really wonder why he arouses such dislike?
Is this a d**k measuring contest? Shall I shoot your immature and inflammatory comments with the Alexa and Optimo 24-290 that I have been using this week and then talk similar trash as you are doing?
I'll pass. I have actual work to do with these tools.
The unhacked gh2 on launch was panned for it's muddy image as well. The bad news , for us looking to pickup a cheap gh2, is that this will probably mean it won't get as cheap as the gh1 did on the gh2's launch. As for the aliasing on the 3, don't expect for a hack to change anything in that regard. I think Pany made two steps forward...but one step back. Maybe the hacked gh2 is destined to be a legend. IMO they made a mistake by not advancing the multi-aspect sensor technology, but it was probably a business rather than an engineering decision. The good news, as an artist and not a narrative film wannabe, I'm still loving the gh13 even if I can't pickup a gh2 for 4 bills !
Yes, this is a sensor/image-processing hardware issue, so it's very unlikely higher bit-rates will have any effect on it.
Moire becomes a serious image flaw any time the camera is moving, where you can see the moire pattern creeping along and drawing the viewers attention away from the subject you are shooting, and there is no way in post to get rid of it. It's permanently in your image.
I really want to see tests without the ultra sharp electronic m4/3 glass to see if the moire shows up. All of the footage I have seen has been with the 12-35 which has heavy electronic correction I think. The PB example used legacy glass and I didn't see moire in it (also wasn't pixel peeping either).
I don't understand why so many people seem to get such pleasure from criticizing a camera that is not even released yet
As much as anyone has observed moire in posted videos, there is an equal number of videos where none is present all
Read Philip Bloom's blog and you will learn that the camera they used was barely working at the time. Early pre-production version with menus and features not working yet. No HDMI output either. And of course he proved what a pro he is by turning an extremely good looking piece.

The difference is that with the GH2, the moire would not have been there in any of them. So...we're concerned. We want all the same quality we get now from a hacked GH2, plus the new features of the GH3. So far, it looks like we may not get the same level of IQ form the GH3.

Andrew, just do your thing. When you have haters, it means you're progressing :nads:

I agree. I check out Andrew's site at least once a week and always find it very useful and I agree he made the GH2 hack less complicated. I also think he's a good movie maker, some of the stuff he shoots is awesome. Edit: if I was Andrew I would stay away from here or at least stop reading the haters (or put them ignore/block them, if that's possible on this site).
Thats great! send him a x-mas card and a fruitcake.
If we CONTINUE to keep falling off topic everyother post, I'm pretty sure the mods will close the thread. And thats not really fair to the original thread starter. Everybody, including myself , take a deep breath, crack a beer and get back on topic![]()
