EOS 7D Firmware Update Version 1.2.1

anyway, C sucks for not giving all that new features that 5DM2 has. 7D had better filming from the beginning, then they upgraded 5D to the 7D level and even beyond by giving some features which 7D is missing. By this firmware upgrade they are saying: piss off 7D users.

I don't think this firmware upgrade means that we won't get the same features as the 5DII. I just think that it will take a little longer until we do. These two cameras have different insides, I say we wait a few more months to see what else they plan to release. Then we can speculate on whether or not they plan to do right by the 7D owners.

Gavin is that one a big issue? Isnt everyone recording audio off camera?

Having manual audio controls would help a lot when dual audio recording is feasible. For best audio results, recording off camera is ideal, but not always that easy.

Interesting interview. Am I the only one or is Canon a bit arrogant? "Adding a feature with firmware? We never did that before!! PLEASE BEG US TO DO IT AGAIN!!"

I don't see it as begging. They just need to know what you want and that enough people want it. Thats how the 5d MkII got the firmware update. The massive amount of people demanding it. If you don't tell them you need it then why should they bother taking the time to do it. They'll just think it isn't necessary. They don't charge for these updates.

Tim Smith by the way gave an interview last year, its on youtube somewhere, saying that the 5d would never get 24p but enough people pushed to make it happen.

If there isn't a demand for agc disable, audio meters, histogram in liveview, zebras, they won't bother.

Its just a business case. They need to have enough of a reason to pay for further development of features in their software.

Tim Smith's a good guy. I've known him since the 90's, and he's always been straight up. If you listen to him, he says it all towards the end. It's up to the community to ask; put heavy pressure. If you want those features, start banging the drums. He also mentions how Canon's approach to it's business model is not like the past. I can tell you from personal experience that this is 100% true. Canon is taking a new approach; I hope they stick with it. It's quite refreshing to see.

I'm sooooo pissed, I was totally expecting raw sensor video, and ProRes 422 recording, and zebra stripes, and manual audio controls. What a let down!

Cheers , regarding audio , the first generation Juicedlink CX211 has an issue with the tripod mount when you use the 1/4 20 mounting thread it pushes up the circuit board causing the power supply not to work.. They have responded to this and have fixed the issue, i just got the new one as far as i can tell using it with the DN1O1, (a funky design for battery power patching the 9 v but it works) is it does indeed bypass the AGC effectively, no hiss, clean sound, i used it with a wireless G2 sennheiser.
Cheers

I think the most important upgrade is #3... I've been holding my breath for this one!

3. Corrects a misspelling in the French-language menu.
