Emotions, crazy requests, donation messages go HERE

Now that I'm in holiday-mode, I'll hack my Gh1 at last.
Bought the Gh1 for personal fun and some location scouting when stealthiness is needed...
Would be crazy if we can use it with our AscTec Falcon 8. !'m very excited!

Okay, so my (hackable) GH1 has arrived and it's on my desk. My lenses (Canon FD 28mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4) will arrive next week hopefully.
I will also buy 2 partiot lx class 10 cards 16 gb and a tripod, but I'm really worried about the issues my camera may have.
I hope it will turn out better than expected :)

Just dropped a small donation to support the project(s) and to say thanks to Vitaliy and fellow testers for all this amazing tech work that turns good cameras into amazing cameras.

Also seems like a good opportunity to say hello and wish the forum a Happy New Year.

Request? A patch for my brain please, so I can understand all this dv stuff.

My biggest request is to have a 2.35:1 crop in camera for 1080p. I don't understand why cinema targeted prosumer cameras have not added this yet, but for all the low budget filmmakers out there, i think this would be a great tool and minimize time in post.

i for one HATE cropping!

:)

Thanks for your efforts Vitaliy. I just made a donation to the project for my recently acquired (secondhand) GH1... I'll drop another donation for my GH2 when I finally get it!

Thanks guys.

As for 2.35:1, I hope that since opening databses (it is few days left only) someone will be able to find solution.

Hallo, in the new GH2 there is an undocumentet funktion "manual focus trick" which is reportet by Michael Reichmann and Chris Sanderson (see below). This funktion would be very helpfull for gH13 useres with old manual lenses- so as Minolta MD/MC eiter for video and stills.

"When manual focusing an AF lens on the GH2 touching the manual focusing ring causes the view to become magnified as an aid to focusing. This applies on both the LCD and the EVF. But when a non-AF lens, one lacking electrical contacts, such as the fantastic Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 Nocton is used, the standard procedure for getting the camera into magnify mode is to press the Menu / Set button and then the left (F2) button.
This works, but it's a bit fiddly when trying to work quickly. There is an undocumented method for magnified focusing of manual lenses that we have not seen mentioned anywhere else as yet. Simply press in on the thumb wheel. This magnifies the image, and then a touch of the shutter release returns the screen to normal magnification for composition and shooting.
It's fast and very well conceived by Panasonic, since otherwise depressing the thumb wheel has no function when a non-electronic lens is mounted."

GH13 : enable/disable magnifier while filming, possible with a hack ?

GH13 : enable/disable magnifier while filming, possible with a hack ?

Hi experts,

on the same topic as above, I was wondering why Pana didn't enable the "MF assist" while filming (could be useful to precisely change focus).

Do specialists here see any technical reason why ? Would it be something very hard (impossible) to enable through hack ?

Thanks in advance !

1080_30p please.

If the camera can record 24p inside a 60i wrapper, then can't it output 30p at 1080?

Hi,

I was wondering if (using a hack) it would be possible to make the display crop the frame to a different format while shooting films, the same way as it is done on the GF1 for photos.

I don't speak about changing the capture resolution, just putting some black strips on the display.
