Emergency lens cleaning

I'm planning to shoot a scene really soon and I think that the last time I shot somehow I got sweat on my dvx100b lens. So now I'm getting a lot of lens flare whenever I point the camera near a light source. I did not have a UV filter on or any other filter. I'm wondering if it is Ok to clean the lens with a microfiber cloth (for eyeglasses) and mild dish soap and water. Ordering a cleaning kit online would take longer than I would like to deliver as I would like to shoot asap. Thanks for any advice.

I would try the cloth without the soap. Thats asking to leave soap residue on the lens. Be sure to blow the the lens off first with a rocket blower or similar before wiping with the cloth.

Whoa whoa hold it right there- dish soap? no- that'll get you banned:banned:

There has been lots of discussion here about lens cleaning- do some searches.
I know a lot of suggestions pointed to using your breath- just fog it up a bunch (big open mouth) and clean away the smudging.

Remember- have super clean hands- (rubber gloves even better),try not to go in big brash circles- just light swipes, and keep using different parts of the cloth as when your wiping off residue- it's now on the cloth and you'll just smudge it around to different parts of the lens. So try to use clean section of cloth every swipe.

Also- don't try to blow on the lens (puckered lips with force)- as you surely will get fragments of spit on the lens- I don't care how controlled you are...it happens. A lens blower(bulb) is the best for this.
* If you don't have time to order one-or you don't have access to a photography shop- you can use a 'suction bulb' for babies @ any babies r us. They're like a big blue bulb with pointy end- should work great for blowing off that pesky lint and dust that is held to the lens by static electricity.

I've ordered cleaning kits and never used any solution even once, I've always used this method and it has proven time and time again to work

best of luck- keep the dish soap....for doing the dishes:smile:

Blowing the lens off is the last thing you do- as you won't be able to 'wipe' off dust/lint from static electricity.

....well on second thought, you could do before and after...but always end with the blower:thumbup:
