Just got my new DXV-100B and was wondering what the fastest and best way to learn the camera's ins and outs would be. Buy a Book? Just experiment? How dd everyone else learn it?

Barry Green's DVX Book - probably the most resourceful book on the subject. There are also DVX DVD's...I think Noah K makes them and reading this forum to be honest. When I had my DVX I learned more from this forum than anything else.

EDIT:

Link for The DVX Book by Barry Green http://dvxuser.com/articles/dvxbook/
Link for a DVD including information on 24p and editing in FCP w/ DVX by Noah K http://www.callboxlive.com/store/digital-post-production-with-final-dvx100-p-28.html

That right there is all the info you need... with a bit of emphasis on the "read these forums" statement.

Right now I've been connecting my RCA video out to my 42" LCD in my living room, and monitoring in real time as I experiment with every single crazy setting in my Setting Files.

Get out of your living room.

If you really want to experiment and use the cam like you will, get out in the field, Try all your settings and putt the camera through some situations.

AND get Barry's book. I keep it in my camera case and use like a reference text. It is very good.

I'm not stuck in my living room, I'm just making a suggestion. ;) Just had the camera out in the snow last week.
