Eidolon

the direct sound was not very good understandable. So thats why the last lines are adr. And it was hard to match it.

just saw your flick.
nice job.
loved the opening drop in.
the color could have been a little more western but it was beautiful.
the focus on the son's knee instead of the face was killing me.
I actually ended up with a clip like that from my DSLR and I was so upset that I couldn't reshoot. From that day on I use my hvx unless I must use the DSLR. :)

the voice at the end was funny but overall I liked it and enjoyed it.
nice job!
thanks.

Also, the actor did the ADR part in a very very very very very very very very very different way then he did on set...

So it's his falt !!! Ha !!!! :2vrolijk_08:

Good film. It felt longer then it was, but that was all the talking heads...still not bad. Breaking that up a bit, like you did with the flashbacks, which were great, would really help the pace. Location was cool too.

Great job cast & crew!

Nice camera moves, I loved the crane work. Young guy seemed a little to clean/fresh for a western, but now I see that may be intentional given what happened to him. Nice setting, loved the colours. I can’t explain why, but the reveal wasn’t a surprise to me. I guess from the opening I just assumed they were father/son. Beautifully executed.

I enjoyed this.

Shooting the older guy in profile I think was a tough choice, it's such an intimate bit of business, I would like to see some eyes and connect to the actor. Flashback shots were beautiful.

Felt like a gutsy direction to go, bravo for that.

Yah the focuse was just a tad off and believe me.....it was driving us crazy too! I don't mind focusing with the DSLR's but we sorta rushed the shooting due to weather and we should have spent more time double and triple checking focus.....oh well. I'm glad you liked it!

Glad you enjoyed it overall, yes we had to cut out two of our shots because the framing was a bit off, but I'm glad you thought the flashbacks were great and that you enjoyed it!

Thanks the crane was fun to work with....the young guy was indeed supposed to be clean cut, glad you liked the setting and colors. I don't think the reveal was necessarily a "surprise" exactly as it is pretty easy to assume they are father and son, but it was more the way it was gradually revealed not really a twist, is what we were going for.

Shooting him profile was more of a choice based on the weather. The day it rained we used 2 rented 7D's and a few lenses and all we had for rain gear was a canopy. I just couldn't handle the risk of bringing those things out in the rain even though they are technically weather sealed, and our canopy did not fit on the bridge lol. The bridge was actually not our original location choice, so we didn't plan on having to fit it on there, but our original place on the same property was completely overgrown after 2 weeks after we originally looked at it. I'm glad you thought it was gutsy and we pretty much pulled it off, and that you liked the flashbacks!

Brandon,

Im really glad you liked it. We were a little worried of the heavy dialogue as not many films in the dvxfests tend to be like that but I'm glad you thought we pulled it off. We did have a few more shots on the bridge, in fact you saw a medium in there once or twice, but the framing on our medium shots did not turn out to our liking. Thanks!

Got it, yeah that's tough on the coverage note.

Really enjoyed the film guys. It was thoughtful and intimate. The dialogue was well written and both the actors did a good job. There were some really good shots in there as well, especially the flashbacks. I really have no nit picks. Great work!

I know a lot of people buck that up to the director not pulling the performance out of the actor, but that's simply not the case. If every actor was capable of a great performance, then there would be a lot more actors in Hollywood films. That's like saying a good orchestra conductor can make anyone play a perfect violin solo. The talent has to be there. I'm not necessarily knocking the actor. I'm just trying to point out the fact that whomever directed the short wasn't necessarily to blame for the viewer to not completely "get it" as far as the overall story arc is concerned.

^ Good post, I agree.

Cool title. Some nice shots in this. The older actor was great. The sudden ADR at the end was jolting. Overall, the story didn't hold my interest. It was all exposition. The flashbacks were the most interesting thing and they were less than 1% of the running time. A scene where two actors just sit on a bridge and reminisce for six minutes is a really, really, hard thing to pull off. Consider that the average scene in a movie is less than three minutes long then couple that with the stationary actors and you've stacked the deck against yourself from the first frame.

Brandon - Thanks! I hope I can make it into thrillfest but it will be difficult, as I have my senior project next semester........we'll see though

Randin & Dre - Thanks and congrats to you guys too! Without you I doubt we would have even submitted anything, you guys were a huge help!
