Hi everyone,

I shot a short film for a competition in LA and I'm currently having problems editing it. My system is too slow to edit a full HD footage. I was wondering is there a way for me to use proxies in final cut pro to lessen the quality and data load while editing it offline so I can still edit with my computer?

and when I have the final edit I'll export it with full quality.

Need help ASAP guys would appreciate it very much!

Peace!

Sure- convert all footage to ProRes using Compressor and start editing. There's little point in conforming back to the H.264 files.

Hi Noah,

that just made the files bigger and didn't help the speed of my computer. My computer still stutters... I know I should have a stronger set up I just don't have the resources to upgrade yet. Any ideas?

I saw a tutorial in videocopilot from andrew and he used proxies to lessen the file size of some pictures and when he exported it - he used the hihger quality files. How do I do this in FCP?

Ok so the new FCP 3.0 has ProRes LT (light) for this very purpose. I am not sure if you must have this new version of FCP or are able to get the Codec independantly. I would suggest going that route and converting to Full ProRes422 after...
