editing 4K at home...

Yes, it seems doing straight cuts with a compressed wavelet file is going to be OK for sure.

Now I was making wishful thinking about new powerful CPUs, Videocards doing advanced selective sharpening, colors and other complicated image manipulation post procedures at 4K

All at home

redcine raw conversion times

redcine raw conversion times

It is continually brought up but never explicitly addressed, so I will ask.

How long will it really take to convert 1 hour of 4K redcode into say a 10bit, 1080p QT on a 23.98 timebase?

Will it take hours and hours? Maybe digital negative is a great description because we will be waiting overnight for dailies. ;)

My theory of why we are not seeing a lot of sample video from RED right now is that processing those beasty files into something usable and then making nice looking compression takes a LOT OF TIME.

Great Question,

How about numbers both for a good laptop (if even possible) and for a super desktop system.

Well, I can always throw around my arbitrary "1 second for 1 frame" number . . . :)

. . . you'll see your hour of footage 24 hours later . . .

Nice post boothba !

Maybe it would help, if closer to RED's delivery some of the team put various resolutions of RED footage through REDcine too determine what kind of minimum computer setup requirement, times for rendering, and maybe even some post workflows using it in Avid, FCP, Vegas, Premiere were applicable ?

Just a suggestion for much later (after you've made a kick a$$ production camera).:beer:

EDIT : I agree with Emanuel, posts.

RED + Zoom #'s rebel with a clue

Now I'm wondeirng which Kona card does Cineform recommend for the upcoming Mac version of Cineform? The LHe or the Kona 3?

Initially we will be mainly have a codec implementation, and not tightly integrated with any particular HDSDI card. That mean either may work, including other vendors HDSDI cards. Those details are not out yet.
