With my 550D i can only edit 720P footage with my fairly basic software, 1920 cant even be dropped into a timeline,what software do i need to edit it, will cineform help and can the footage be mixed with HDV footage in projects,this is a big problem for me HDV has never given editing problems

HDV, yes it can definitely be mixed - make sure you're shooting in similar settings to get close results.
