This is too cool... can't wait for it to come out.
I also like the fact that it's named the AF100...just like the previous gound-breaker DVX100!

I can only imagine what the AF100b will offer.

Strange they're not going P2 with this camera. Kind of makes me wonder what else might be in the works. I bet people will have these in their hands before the scarlet ever comes out. Once you've gone 4/3 you can't go back.

I was sitting there drooling at the AG-AF100 for over an hour yesterday at NAB. She's a beautiful machine :)

Do you realize it's going to have uncompressed HD/SDI out? Uncompressed. PAL and NTSC. Multiple frame rates. XLR outs. Dual hot-swappable SDHC slots... ND filters inside the camera, I could talk about this thing for days :)

Things are fixin' to get real groovy by the end of the year ;)

This is starting to look very drool worthy.
However I still can't get past the Fisher Price look of it, and that HUGE handle.
What's the deal with a top handle that big?

The functionality and possibilities seem very promising though.
I mean HDMI and SDI...

Suggestions for Panasonic for the AF100

Suggestions for Panasonic for the AF100

Well, I must say that I am very happy that Panasonic is creating what I (and many others) have been predicting: the DSLR-VideoCam hybrid! While overall I am grateful that the technology is on the horizon, I suppose I can nitpick a few seemingly missing features that I would like. I was informed (through a friend on the NAB show floor who spoke to a Panny rep) that the AF100 feature set has not been finalized yet. So, I'm going to put together a quick wishlist that I find reasonable (though others might not).

1. I was a bit disappointed to learn that the camera shoots AVCHD. I would have much preferred AVC-I (or at least DVCProHD). I was also disappointed to learn that there is no P2 support and only SD Cards for recording. I really like the bulletproof P2 cards that I've come to rely on and trust to "get the shot." Plus I've invested in them. :) That being said, I am seriously looking into investing in a Panasonic AG-HPG20 to record AVC-I master-quality footage on to my P2 cards. Please design the rear of AF100 to allow for easy tethering of the HPG20 (like how some of the bigger Panny cams allow it to be attached). This would save me from trying to figure out a way to fasten the HPG20 to rails, etc.

2. If the AF100 ships with a lens, please let it be a simple zoom lens with a rocker of some sort, as to make the camera a decent choice for event videography.

Ummm, that's all I can think of at the moment. Thank, Panasonic!

I wonder how many dreams this will answer while the Scarlett continues to be a mystery. I wonder if the Red company can even wait a year or however long before it ships.. and others have moved onto something else, like this camera or others. Somone will have a 3k for 3k at some point...

Hi,

The camera concept won the Mario Award today. Don't know what that is? Check out TV Technology and the Masked Engineer. Award should be up within a week or so. It is a big honor.

Very cool NAB, although I am one tired puppy. One more day to do.

Best,

Jan

DC, post your suggestions in the official wishlist thread. I second the demand for P2/AVC-Intra. I want them to do two models, like the HMC150/HPX170. That way those who want cheap media can have it, and those who demand ultimate reliability and P2 can have that...

Why not have the choice by having both in the same Camera like the HVX did with dv tape & 2P2 slots or at least have a P2AVC-Intra adaptor which could be fit on the back.
I want to up grade my hvx to a F100 that records AVC-Intra on to my 64G P2 cards!

Because it's a very small camera and there's not a whole lot of room. Look at the photos of it in someone's hands -- it's way smaller than an HPX170.

Did not Sony just show a mockup of their one chip camera with s38 lens that is to record on to their sxs cards. the Sd cards could go on the side of the F100 leaving room for the P2 cards in the top back.

Barry do you have a link to the camera in someones hands.
I would be interested to see this, as it looks much larger to me in size than I expected.
But that's probably due to the extreme closeup shots I have seen of it in the case.

hard to get a scale comparison this way.

Thanks, Barry. Would be glad to. But . . . where is that "official" wishlist thread? Can't seem to find it. :undecided
