DVXFest Sci-Fi Contest

ai i might make it this time, first off i have to make something else to submit to a school. but if i'm happy with that result i'll spend the time i have left on this competition.

i'll make a sci-fi banner just in case... :d
 
What type of sci fi film are you guys making?

I know we can't discuss premises, I'm just curious where people are heading...
aliens? robots? space travel? cloning? What's up your sleeves?

We've all heard about the probing they do when you get abducted... I plan to explore the artistic side of that event... for 05:50:00

What about a story about a company who makes robots and they're supposed to be helpful to mankind, but then something happens - I dunno, maybe someone at the company turns bad and the robots get programmed with bad ideas. Then a cop - or maybe he's a robot too, but he doesn't know it - has to get the bad guy and lots of the robots try to kill him.

I like origami.

Stay with me now. Picture Kurosawa meets Sir Thomas Malory set against the backdrop of Flash Gordon's world...wait wait there's more! Add a dash of Fritz Lang. It's basically an Arthurian legend, but with laser swords! I can see it now...a "Space Opera"...a "War of the Stars"...huh?...huh?

Edit: WTF do you mean it's already been done?

Where have I been?! I've been on DVXuser every day, and only now just realized that the next fest has officially been announced ... got a LOT of catching up to do now.

Matt, that's about one of the funniest videos I've ever seen ... still laughing about it as I write this!

I think I want to start from scratch, but haven't had the time the past couple of days. I may wait, as depending on what I do for a story for the fest, maybe I can kill two birds with one stone ... though I'm not planning on anything with a horror aspect to it, which that effect's best used for, IMO.
 
Or it could be used for a new "worm-hole" effect...instead of the usual CGI kaleidoscope tunnel. Perhaps showing the person moving in the "THE RING" effect could be a nice time-transition or wormhole effect.

I thought I had a cool idea, but then once I opened my mouth to speak it sounds incredibly stupid. So the short answer would be no.

I'm having our zombie fest party next Friday night (28th) where we'll be watching our DVD version of the short & I'll be giving out DVD's to those involved. I'm hoping to have a brainstorming session that night, if we don't have an idea by then.

I'm also not going to limit myself to just 6 minutes for the story. If the story takes us into a 15-20 minute production, then all the better. Then we'll just take the best of the best to make a tight 6 minute version for the fest. While I agree that these festivals need to keep the films short for logistics, I really want to advance my skills & work on longer & longer productions as I go ... eventually working up to a feature.
 
lol norm, I know exactly what you mean as far as sounding dumb.

I wouldn't scrap your idea though... write it out on paper and try to remember why it triggered your interest to begin with.

Maybe you can strip that little aspect and apply it to something else... just a thought
 
Well, believe it or not we're already shooting!

And I know this is against the rules... but I just thought you guys might like to see a grab from our BTS reel.

I learned a lot from Curugon and I think I finally got it figured out.:thumbsup:
