DVXFest Sci-Fi Contest

I think you guys are throwing ideas around (which in itself is a good thing) that serve no particular purpose.

We're just talking about some ideas that could make this contest a little bit more organized than the last one...for one...registration before making a film...time limit on registration...not registration throughout the contest...and certain amount of none DVX footage...etc.

pretty much jus shootin the breeze in which could make this contest better than the last.

I don't know how crazy I am about a cut off or registering. For example, you say you're going to enter, work on your film, but just can't get it right by the deadline...so you don't enter and someone else could have.

I think in keep with what Jarred said, I don't think there should be a cut off either. If the number of entries should happen to pass 79, isn't that the point really? To get us DVX users making something and sharing it with our fellow users in a festival? Anyone who complains about 100 entries at 7 minutes a piece better have watched ALL 79 zombie movies because there were quite a few who didn't!

I think maybe to make viewing easier it should be run like a real festival in that on Mon and Tues you can download these titles, Weds and Thurs, theses titles... etc. Might make the whole process less daunting, but then again if you can't get to your PC (or Mac) for those days you miss entries and that screws up my point...so forget my idea. Scrap it.

Hey, I like the idea of it having registration. I'm working on my script tonight, had this idea brewing for a couple of days and I think it is actually a wicked little concept. We'll see how it turns out when it's judging time.

That process seems complicated...the different days of the week...

Well..if you were gona register...you better make sure to meet the deadline....and not just waste space in the contest....the contest should be something for very dedicated people who really wanna be part of it....and no cutt offs...just have like a 2 week period of registration..then everyone who wants to be part...register...then make film..its easier....and they should schedule their time if they really wanna be part of the contest...make time to meet the deadline..

Yes, well I believe I said it was a bad idea and to scrap it? It sounded good until I talked it out.

Not for nothing, but S**t happens even to people with the best intentions. Acts of god, deaths in the family, etc. that may prevent you finishing your film if you register to enter. It has nothing to do with not being dedicated enough, etc. And it is inevitable that a few people who do register don't submit. Look at how many people reserve things and don't show up. Its part of life, like it or not.

Do you know that sensation when you buy a lotto ticket you think of all the things you are going to do with the money you win? Mental Masterbation.

That's what this discussion, which I consider myself a participant in, is turning into.

Honestly, we can campaign for things that we want: a. genre of festival b. longer time entries c. content requirement for original DVX footage, but debating amongst ourselves about who can enter and what happens... it's just turning silly.

Sorry for the tone. Thought it had to be said. I trust Barry, Jarred, and the other moderators and facilitators of the festival. Hell, I'd even donate $5-$10 to enter to help just cover some of the server cost to make the files available for download.

Sorry for the tone.

Well if something tragic happens thats out of your hands taht you cant fix...then you should be able to tell Jarred and Barry that you can't do the contest...one less film wont like jeoperdize everything...its life..**** happens to everyone...and people who are like ..OHH MANN NOW I WISH I COULD REGISTER...should understand that you couldn't make a film for personal reasons..thats all...life sucks for some things...this would be one of them..plus...people who wanted to register and couldnt...could jus wait till next contest...its not a big deal. There need to be some firm rules that should stick around..they might not be fair to one person..but makes everyone equal. No exceptions for like last minute films or suttin.

I feel the same way. In the end whatever Jarred and Barry decide are the rules, like it or not. I'd like to see the next contest run a lot like the last one just not the voting. But hey, I'll still enter regardless.

There's no harm in talking about what we'd like to see happen and stuff, but I just don't want to turn around and see a mob mentality pushing for things I don't agree with.

Ho hum.

Dude, I'm not arguing this with you. I don't like the idea of registering, you do. Fine! You don't have to like my reasons or agree with them. If you want to campaign for registering, be my guest. I'll still say what I already said... I'm against the idea.

End of story.

Fade out.

I get what your saying..its ur opinion..its cool..but the whole point of this convo..atleast wat i was sayin...making suggestions for the next contest to be a tad organized...and you have ur opinion on it..nuttin wrong wit it....but i think its good to talk about things liek this..so Jarred and Barry culd get ideas for rules or suttin..

You guys need a humorous interlude to end this diatribe...

So... for YOUR viewing pleasure... I give you... drumroll please... my official favorite 1 minute long sci-fi flick of all time... *symbal crash*... THIS... CLICK

This is old, but I'll bet a lot of people haven't seen it yet... and if you have you forgot how good it is.

'Look what I can do!'

That's EXACTLY what blackhawk would do if he had an R2D2.

Okay; my script is done

Okay so mine is about these 2 nurse girls who run to thier car cause the aliens are landing and then the government agents show-up and accidently shoots one of them and then the lead nurse turns into a space vampire.
