DVXFest Sci-Fi Contest

Thanks Matt! I'm actually less than satisfied with the sound, but since I only had myself and had to position the mic on a stand I did the best I could. I'm working with the dialog now to see if I can make it a little better. Hopefully, tonight I will do a first mix and start automating it.

If you can't tell Yankee... it was us. MattC has a short in the can (almost) that I found very entertaining and technically excellent.

Yeah, even being as slow as I am from this very long weekend, I was able to use my powers of deduction to figure that one out...

Now I'm curious about this movie.

Actually, Yankee I was talking to you as well. I have some friends on the West Coast who work in that particular industry... I'm fairly confident I could pull that one off if I really wanted to. But, now this other short was just a quick comedic thing I did for fun and to learn a bit. It'll be up by the end of the week.

I think a Sci-Fi genre would be sweeett...

then I could start testing out my skills at CGI!!

woop woop!!

...already started writing a screenplay and everythingg....currently designing some aliens cuz im really bored...

I have a couple of friends in that industry as well, plus I have done some very basic free lance work for people I know... Until you try it, reverse angles never made somuch sense. OK, new topic maybe

yes, new topic, please....

Matt, there is one part of the dialog that I'm just not happy with the audio, but I'm going with it. I did however trim down "Figaro" (from the Barber of Seville) by over 75% and you can't tell AT ALL. If you didn't know the piece you'd swear it was written how I cut it. The foley work and the soundtrack came out sweet and most of the dialog came out really well (well, as good as you can get by recording to a camcorder, which as you now know is not very good). I'm compressing a version tonight. Tomorrow you and "the gang" will get a preview of it to let me know what you think before I post.

Cheers

Here's a... wallpaper I guess? I made it in photoshop. Wanted to do a retro- theme. I think I am going to make a sig out of the layers. lol

I don't want to be the guy who has the project that sticks out like a sore thumb because he didn't have the specifics before he began writing.
If they get anywhere near the number of submissions for the ZombieFest I would think sticking out would be a smart idea... If you have a great idea I say stick to it, then if they come up with some specific guidlines just incorporate as needed.

There is really a buzz about this sci fi thing...

It's nice to see people this amped about a project we don't even know about yet.

I'm far from negative. I believe that getting amped about a project that hasn't been announced is weird. Then again, I bet on the world series winner before the season even starts, so I have no problem with it.

I revert to my previous statement, I think that these contests are great because it motivates people to get out and make a film. That is what this is about, making the film.

I'm all for the sci fi idea, last night I was walking my dog, stepped in some dog dung and came up with my idea in case it's a sci fi project. If it's not then I have an idea that I like and I'm still going to do this project (just need to figure out where I put it with some other things I want to do).

I consider myself a realist.

One thing I can say though, I love all these banners everyone is doing. If had had any photoshop skills I would be all over it.

Well thanks for the clarification :-p

As far as starting early... I think people were kicking themselves for starting so late last time. The admins have said that if the cry is loud enough, they will make it sci-fi. So supporting the idea before it's been officially announced is what we SHOULD be doing. :)

Well hey... I'm up for anything.

Maybe tonight I will play with photoshop and make a banner myself... Actually, that won't happen.
