DVX100b used in a Breakdance video

Nice video, I did however see you in the refection on the train and the shot in the beginning were it jump cuts to the train, maybe could use a transition. The name of the dance is called b-boying not breakdancing for those who don't know, breakdancing is the commercial name for it. We get the name for "bronx boy" in the late 70's, because that's were it started. But overall the video had a nice look to it, job well done! Damn airflare to windmill on concert!

the shots looked good but IMO it became boring just seeing the same dancers. i think some abstract images etc would have helped. cute b-girls though!!

twocik23, where about in Florida are you from? Because Zak B, the artist for the record label, DubTone, is from Florida also. He's from South Beach, Miami.

Thanks for pointing out about using the term, breakdancing, but we deliberately used this term instead of b-boying since the video is both boys and girls breakdancing. Also don't forget the term, breakdance, b-boy or break boys came from the 70s when DJ Cool Herk started using just the break parts in the record and started to pro-long them by mixing two of the same records. Therefore breakdancing, breakbeat, b-boying, b-boy...etc, terms all came into affect.

About the reflection, we didn't know about it until during post, but we had to go through a lot of hassle shooting the scene at one of the busiest station in Osaka, so we had no choice, really. But I wish we could have noticed it earlier!

Thanks for the comments. How's the weather in Florida by the way?

Right on Kenji,

I just started shooting quite a bit with the local b-boy and b-girls. They're all submitting videos for this www.redbullbeatriders.com That was a cool video, if you have watched other distributed breakn videos they suck...most of them anyway. All stationary cams. So it's pretty refreshing to see something different!

Thank you buck. I want to see your video but somehow I can't see it putafile won't show it to me. lol. It's a lot easier to shoot a music video with a band on stage or a group of guys standing around a car and rapping then it is to shoot breakdancers. This was our first shoot with breakdancers for the record label and a lot of people are talking about it here in Japan and Korea. It's getting a very good feedback. Our next music video will involve breakdancers, too! Good luck with your project, I hope it comes out great.

"Breakdance", "B-Boying", whatever... I know nothing.

About the Video, unlike a post above me, I thought it kept my interest nicely. Didn't get boring for me at all, and I have a very short attention span. Overall, I think it was a really good video, but there are some flaws; the reflection as mentioned above, but it wasn't bad. Some of the cuts during the beginning of the dance sequence didn't seem to fit. Camera A was good, but when cutting to camera B, it didn't match up quite as well as it could have. Also, there were a couple times that you could tell camera B was about to mess up, so you cut back to camera A. Maybe cut it a bit earlier, so we don't see that camera B was about to get too shaky, or whatever the problem was.

The video flowed really well, though, and I like the concept. Simple, yet effective.

Just my two cents.

i had assumed it was a music video for that song but i realize now its a b-boy/girl video so definitley tight. nice night shots!!

i enjoyed it, the train station shots look great, especially when the guys walk up the stairs. What type of lights did you use to light the battle, they made that scene look great also.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Brown, as for the transaction between A camera and B camera, we wanted that look.. one being on the steady and the other one with shaky feel to it.

As for the lighting, we used five fluorescent lights hooked up to tripodes and ran them to a car battery and then white balanced! We only spent a total of 120 dollars for our light fixtures! and REMEMBER this is Japan, one of the most expensive places to live and work! hehe..

Twocik, I don't break myself, but I have a lot of friends doing it here in Japan and Korea. Next couple of projects will include Gambler Crew and Expressionist from Korea. You should know who they are. :)

Hey, I really like this video!

I put it up on my widescreen to show my GF. Even with the web compression it rocks.

J-Breakers are always so damned good.

I also like the use of [what seems like] post production camera moves. It actually fits really well, if that's what was used.

What were your camera settings (if this hasn't been asked)

The B-girls were VERY coordinated, and that's a surprise because a lot of female breakers don't seem to have the same coordination as males.

I love this. ANyway you can upload a higher-res version for me to DL and keep?

I watch most of their (Gamblers and Expressions Crew) clips on bboy world and see that they have taken it to a whole another level. I think it's awesome that they take it like a sport, not just some way of making money, or picking up chicks, like some of us americans. Definitely keep me posted or if you need any tips or whatever PM me.

Kholi, thank you for your comment, our camera setting was 24P and all on zero settings. All the CC was done in post. All the other camera moves were done in post as well. If you want a better quality video, we'll send you a DVD after I finish with behind the scene parts! It should be done in about a week or so. If you are interested, here's my email address, you can send me your address.

And Twocik, Kenji is our Japanese record label agent. And I, Minha K, and my boyfriend, Zak B, directed the video for Zak's record label.
