DVX100b upressing

Yeh how low the detail goes really depends on ur taste I guess. 2 low it may look out of focus...but its really the look you desire. Hope ur shoot goes well.

I've always kept the detail down too. Setting detail to -4 reduces the halo effect and provides the smoothest texture, which is really important for shooting squeeze. I don't usually mess with the coring settings though. I've always been a big believer that noise removal should be done in post with plugins like neat video. 'Sides, I've never really noticed that coring makes much of a difference with detail settings as low as -4.

Other than that, you can emphasize the natural sharpness of your images by giving them more contrast, both in your lighting and your scene file. A master ped of -8 and cine-v work pretty well for me. Good luck!

I'm of the opinion that if you shoot w/an adapter then it's best to turn up the detail a bit because an adapter softens the image to begin with.

Does anyone know how they do it with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? There is a thread here where they discuss the show and the SD capture and HD broadcast, but I haven't seen a workflow...

Looks great! I have FCS 2. What were some of the settings you used?

PS: In the end credits of the video, the Matt Sander that made the original score, it that the same Matt Sander that is the lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold?

I just use the scaler built into compressor, but I guess that isn't really an option for you. Even though I can't help too much with your workflow, I can let you know that scaled DVX footage can still look awesome. Here's an example of how my stuff looks:

For me, keeping detail at -4 is as much an aesthetic decision as it is a technical one. Colour correcting the footage, recompressing it, or scaling it to different resolutions is much easier to do when you don't have to worry about sharpening induced artifacts. If you're shooting 4:3 or you're doing a straight cuts/delivery kind of thing then sure, sharpen away, but for longer workflows I always make sure to try to minimize haloing, mosquito noise, and aliasing.

Haha, nah, Matt Sander is a good friend and local composer in my town.

As for settings, it's really nothing too complicated. Just dial in your desired resolution in compressor, and then tell it to use the best scaling algorithm possible. That, and be sure to use a high bitrate (~5 Mbps) for the video, and 16-bit PCM for the audio.

Hello, I'm kinda new here, I enlisted in the dvx community after purchasing a DVX 102 ben, and I happen to find this website full of priceless information. I've learned a lot on the DVX thanks to Barry green and you guys.

I was wondering if you knew what would be the settings for upressing my footages from a PAL camcorder ? Cuz I'm on FCP 6 and the article precisely mentions 24 p advanced which I don't have.:
"Cameras like the DVX100A a special shooting mode referred to as 24p Advanced or 24pA, which results in footage with a 2:3:3:2 pulldown that can be automatically detected and removed by FC"
Does it mean it isn't possible to do it with a Pal camcorder ? Does it need to be this specific 24p advanced ? I always shot on squeeze 25 p. I have a very poor knowledge of compressor though that might be one part of the solution
Thanks

Thanks a lot Mr Green ! I'll try this in a few hours. Your book was a great help for me and again, you're on the forum completing information. Never seen any better services ! I hope I'll get shots like you guys are showing, they are truly astonishing.

Your film looks verily great. Could you specify more precisely what you do when you say "I usually just render at a really high resolution in Vegas when exporting."?

Thanks

I render a mp4 from the sony AVC option at a bitrate of 5,000,000 and a resolution of 1280x720 and be sure to check the box that says "allow source to adjust frame rate" or you will get really weird ghosting.
