DVX100B Head Cleaning

First of all, let me apologize to all of you who, like me, have scoured these threads looking for a well-documented method to clean the DVX100B heads- one like Barry S did for the 100A.These are not instructions for such a tutorial. I apologize if I got your hopes up. If anybody knows of such a post from DVXuser or any place else, I'd be glad to read it.

I did come across an interesting tid-bit that claims the 100B cleans it heads automatically like many DVCPRO cameras. Being a noob, I'd be interested to hear more experienced thoughts on this.

Here's what I found:

"Automatic Head Cleaning
The AG-DVX100B provides the same head cleaning function as our DVCPRO models. The white roller pad positioned to the right of the head cylinder cleans the head each time you load a tape, helping to minimize dropouts and head clogging."

-express video supply, inc.'s ad for the DVX100B

I'm sure this doesn't mean you'll never have to clean the head. Or maybe you just need to clean the white roller pad every once in a while.

Regarding the 100B head cleaning, the crux of the matter seems to be the black plastic cap on the head that prevents one from rotating it as per Barry S's instructions.

Don't know if there are any ways around this, but I'd love to know since I'll be moving to Burma in July where the humidity I'm sure will affect the head, and I would bet there ain't no head cleaning technicians there.

Cheers.

Dory,

Right you are, but the post (Page 18) only shows how to remove the door and offers a fine picture of the tape drive assembly. Still not sure how you are to rotate the head with the plastic cap on top.

Have you ever cleaned your DVX head? If so, how'd you do it?

Cheers

im about to send mine to NYC to have it cleaned. i dont trust myself. they said it will be 120.00 USD. hopefully it fixes all the wacky crap it does when im in the middle of shooting
