Dvx100b better than hmc150?

Is there any situation where a dvx100b would have an advantage over an hmc150?
Dance recitals, weddings, receptions, court recordings, anything?
Trying to think of some reason in the future to keep it.

I need to raise money and am thinking of selling my 100b and two dvc60s.
Oddly enough the 60s seem to be worth more now than the 100b.
 
As beloved as the 100 is, I can't think of anything it does better than a 150. Excepting the obvious, which is that it records to and plays back DV tape, which of course the 150 doesn't, so if you have the odd or rare client who still requires tape, or you have a library of tapes and need to keep the 100 to be able to access those tapes...
 
Thank you, Barry. Can't get better advice than from you. I think it's time to let it go as I have a mini dv deck.
Anyone want a low use Dvx? :)

I'm going to have to look and see what they are going for now and what hours i have on it. Hopefully around $700.
It's in real nice shape. I tended to use my dvc60s more because they were easier to shoot with and shoulder mount.
I'm going to try to sell all of them and buy one more HD camera with the money.
 
Do an "advanced search" on eBay and you'll see what they've been selling for.

I always thought the audio on my DVX sounded nice - I did some recording studio stuff where one channel would be a Sure 57, right on a marshall cab. Maybe not the cleanest pro converters around, but sonically very "nice", warm & pleasant. I've always thought a DVX would make a nice audio capture device for a DSLR shoot, and the fact it captures video means you'd get some synch visuals if needed. Not nicer than a purpose-made device, but a "works great if you have one lying around" thing.

That said, it's tape, it's got a super-complex transport with something like 1,267,331 moving parts, one of which "someday" will likely act up.

If you have a library of tapes you need to access, I believe you can capture them with any old consumer DV camcorder with Firewire out, regardless of frame rate/etc.

By the way, in the DVX vs. 150 category, you might want to consider the AC130 vs. HMC as well. For me it was a great upgrade from the HMC. Not as earth shaking as DVX to HMC, but nice.

I always thought the Dvx audio was better than the hmc150. The 150 frequently ends up being low whereas I pretty much akways got the Dvx audio right where I wanted: good and strong without clipping.

I agree about the moving parts and that is a concern. I know it's only a matter of time like anything else before a part fails.

I'm probably going to but another 150 because I'm pretty happy with it overall. I am considering an hpx 170.. or ac160 for the extra zoom, 1080 /60p and sharper image. It also is supposed to be a little Better in low light, but costs quite a bit more and will be harder to match.
I think that the next go around may finally produce an HD equivalent of what the Dvx was to the SD world. Im suspecting backlit sensors, good autofocus, great OIS tech from the ac90 may merge with some of what the 130,160,250 have to offer and more. Of course that's just speculation, But until a great HD camera comes out, I may just make due with several hmc150s which do a decent job and match.
 
Check this out - shot this a few years back with a DVX. All the guitars were recorded into the DVX with various mics. Just love the tone I got - and I usually use an Apogee pre for studio recording.

Man, my hair was LONG then!

 
I'm getting something else but I'm keeping my DVX100b. It is still a great camera.
 
Me, to be able to have a camera that still have a tape, I sold my DVX100b and bought a HVX200a.

Native 16:9 chips is a plus and it will mix much better with my HMC150.
 
Wow. That's impressive. I would not have guessed a DVX did that!

This is really good, has this ever been pushed to radio? There's a DJ in Holland who'll probably like this.
 
@Michael Carter - wow, there are a lot of very talented folks on dvxuser :) - congrats on the guitar playing, but bigger congrats on having the good taste to work with someone like Wafa Ghorbal (first I heard of her)... what is the most important requirement for an artist? Good taste - the ability to pick what's beautiful... can't teach that.

The downfall of dvx100 is not the image - it's the medium (tape) in today's market. We have so many options these days.

Maybe it would do 4:3 better?

The sound quality on the DVX series was always outstanding!
Wish panasonic could get that right again!

Speaking of sound quality, did they "get that right again" on the hpx250 and it's four channel sound, or is it not as good as Im assuming?
The audio of the 150 doesn't seem as good as the 100b to me. How about the ac160?
