DVX100B $1000 price drop - now $2995 retail

There still isn't anything there! Maybe tomorrow. Is saturday the first day of NAB? If Panasonic puts a $500 rebate on the DVX100, you will have to wait to get one.

Zim tipped me off that it was coming; he went to the Panasonic site and there was a "blank spot" where the DVX rebate used to be. So then I kept going to check, because there's no way they'd leave a blank spot up there.

As for BPS, Jan's said that several times here on the board. The B/BP/BPS question gets asked here a lot, so I was just the first to respond; if I hadn't, I'm sure others would have. It's a FAQ.

No hint of any change happening to the HVX.
There is a seller on eBay with 20K positive feedbacks that has the DVX100B for $2348.00 and also has the HVX200 for $3548.00. No free P2 cards with the imported camera, obviously! I think change in HVX200 price in the USA is eminent, or they'll increase the $$ value of "throw-ins"... Clearly there is room in the Japanese export price to make a better deal for the US customer.

Cool news. Though not suprizing, and right on cue.

The DVX was up against the A1. It couldn't bring more to the table, so it was time to drop the price. And they did. The DVX is, once more, priced about right where it should be in comparison to the other options for what it brings to the table in features.

The HVX s one hell of a camera, and no one should quabble about the price for some time still. And very few people actually do have a problem with the price. The only major "issue" with the HVX, is the cost and capacity of media. Well the prices just dropped and the available capcity went up. Again. Makes perfect sence.
No, P2 still isn't "cheap" the same way DV tape is, but the overall cost of owning a HVX is dropping fast.

The following is speculation...
I'm not really sure there is much more for Panasonic to do right now. That beeing said, I can easily see a good hole right between the two for an AVC-intra cam. But why bother? The HVX allready does so much it would be unlikly to have them availabel at the same time.
My guess is that the next major play from Panasonic will be a HVX100a or whatever they call it, that will add AVC-intra into the current HVX (with possibly a few other features, but nothing else world changing). But I don't think that will even be announced at NAB this year.

We shall know if there is more or not on Monday.

i still think this price drop should have been more than $200

Of course! People are going over the moon about the "big price drop, blah, blah, blah" - it's all rubbish. You know why?

Because you can get the A1 for $3050 - from an authorized Canon dealer OneCall (see dealmac.com).

Folks, that's pretty much a $2999.00 camera (by $51). Sorry, but Panny needs to drop the DVX way, way, way down to compete.

The HV20 is going for some $800++ (under $900).

I think Canon is being super aggressive about market share right now.

Panny can't sit on their duff like this. First, they should have had a camera out to plug up the hole that was left under the HVX200.

Second, failing that, they should have dropped the price on the DVX even before the A1 came out to sop up the demand and take away those buyers from Canon.

Third, failing that, they should have made a HUGE drop in price on the DVX for the same reasons as above - if they drop just a little, that doesn't count, since Canon can also drop the price.

All in all, I must say Panny's marketing department dropped the ball here.

I was disgusted and insulted with this price drop. I expected more brains and more balls from Panny. Feh.

Drop the DVX100b to $1750.00 and we'll talk.

Cannon........Cannon........I would use one if it was the last camera on earth.....well maybe :)

I don't think there's a human being on earth who'd use a Cannon for a camera, well, I take it back, maybe a few in the White House would :)

Now, Canon on the other hand, well, there are plenty of those who use their cameras :)

gee I knew I should have sold mine to my friend for $2,500... a few weeks ago... but I wanted to hold onto to it... and decide at NAB what my next camera will be...

But he doesn't read this forum... ... no I couldn't do that to him...

a couple of days ago Panny dropped the retail price from 3999 to 2999. $1,000 drop.

With the retail at $3999 places like B & H were selling about $700 under retail. So now that retail is $2999 they are only selling about $350 under retail.

I think it needs to drop more or a rebate.

B&H has the XL2 with a $300 rebate for $2995

I second the idea of a rebate. Another $500 rebate would cut it

Does any one know when this price drop took place? I baught one last month a friend got it for me for 2600- winded up it was used so hes giving me a new one now and maybe he can cut the price even more due to this price drop.

i hope they do another rebate i want to buy another one.

I asked myself a couple of times, why the hell panasonic is not going to offer a DVX with the ability of 16:9 - I would buy such a camera as soon as it hits the market.
I don´t need HD right now, but there ist a no go for a cam without 16:9 to me even if the price drops to $1000 (ok, in that case I could buy an 16:9 Adapter, but it´s not very handy).

The DVX is shurely a great camera, but almost all newer TV´s and all TFT´s are 16:9, so why should I buy a camera which can only provide me with 4:3 ?

Wait... What? Is this true? The DVX100b doesn't do 16:9?

Oh dear... What's best to go for then?

I was sure that everything these days was 16:9! Didn't expect this camera with all the amazing reviews to not have 16:9 :(

Where would be the best (and cheapest/legit) place to purchase one right now? I see B&H has it for $ 2,649.95, but they aren't in stock, says, "Accepting Orders, takes 7-14 days".
Any other legit seller currently selling it for less than the B&H price?
I'm thinking of buying a DVX100b pretty soon.
