hey, i am just getting into this stuff and i'm going to be filming skateboarding and snowboarding. this will be my first legit camera. so im pretty much a beginer. should i get the canon GL2? or the dvx100a? thanks and let me know.

get Barry Green's DVX book if ur gonna get the dvx and u'll learn about it. Also search the net and watch tutorials on photography. that will help with any camera you get.

i was in the same boat over a year ago. bought a DVX and never looked back. a friend of mine uses a GL2, they just don't compare.

thanks but is the dvx hard to understand with all of the adjustments you can make?

No more complicated than any other camera. Once you understand white balance, aperture, shutter speed, and how they all interplay (specifically how aperture and shutter speed interact), the concepts are the same for any camera. After that, it's only a matter of getting used to how one particular camera has its controls laid out.

And to be honest, the DVX simply offers tactile control to more of the features, where the GL requires navigating menus and other complicated tasks to do many of the same things. It's actually easier to use the DVX.

I bought a GL-1 years ago. I sold it a couple years later and got a DVX100a. I'm glad I did. There were so many challenges in dealing with the GL-1, and so many features that the DVX offered that the Canon GL-series wouldn't, even with the GL-2. Plus, I was never really happy with the chips in the GL, or the chintzy audio circuits.

Color response on the GL series and XL series are horrific, colors and contrast are flat. Basically the GL2 produces an overly digital look compared to the DVX.
Go with the DVX.
