DVX TV AD - new fragrance

Karl, Brave you are in this day to exercise you freedom of speech. you might put a disclaimer on your thread though. I thought it was hilarious, but I can see where a lot of people are gonna get offended. Heck, some Colorado music teacher just got branded as a Satan worshiper for showing her class the opera Faust.
Nice job on the work. If you could have made the cuts to the corridor and the other "possessed" shots more jarring? like a sound or something to make the viewer jump a little, I think it woudl have had more of an impact on me.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

Couple of things.

Im really suprised some people thing this is for real. A fragrance with 'tears from a zoomed in eye' in it, is not about to hit the market. It's something I made up with my mate Mark (you may recognise him from 'No Presents For Paul'). Sorry if the thread misled - but I thought that would add to the initial humour. The whole idea was to create a fragrance and concept that was ridiculous.

I didnt set out to offend, if I had done that this would have been much worse. "Let Jesus...." is a line from the Exorcist which suited the fragrance but Tarquin never actually says it. It's shown repeatedly during the section where we talk about the advertising campaign and the reasoning for the slogan - which is what you'd expect; it's in context with the whole piece. Of course anyone who's religious would take offence anyway, but I dont think it's excessively done for shock value alone.

True, I think it's hilarious to see an Ad the size of a house above woolworths saying "Let Jesus..." ; but that's just me.

The bottle I made in 3DSMAX, along with the corridor shot; the posters were just tracked in and cc'd to blend. The rest of it was shot in my house and garden. Im glad some of you liked it anyway.

Karl

Karl,
Now I see your idea, but it was so well done to the extent that you will think it was a real product.
So I give you a thumbs up for that.
That shows how skillful you are in creating something that's very professional and artistic and I would just say that there are so many ideas out there, and of course, will capture everyone's mind just like you intend without breaching anyone's beliefs.

Please let's see more of your skills man~!

man, you guys need to relax a bit.

in the world of law and free speech; Zeus, Allah, buddha, and "god" are just different gods. none above the other.

if you happen to believe in one, that's your choice and a belief you alone are responsible for.

but yah, in relation to the video... the bottle shots were very classy. and the billboards looked flawless to me. like one guy was saying, definatly the 'army of darkness' of perfume comercials. freakin' funny.

Well I'm relaxed....did it offend me? well heck yeah...but then again that is me and only me.

I still got to give commend Darkline for his vision and talents. We might not agree on content or subject matter, but he has the right to see it and say it as he wants. That's the beauty of feedom of speech and that is the beauty of freedom of belief.

Would a disclaimer work? it could...I mean we have it on every HBO and Skinemax movie out there.

We never know who is going to take offense to anything we say or show. Uh...just take a look at what has happened with the Mohhammed cartoon. Muslims in Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia are up in arms. It's a crazy world and we as content providers find ourselves always walking on egg shells...or water! :)

Besides that...bravo Darkline

Hey nice job! Hey with the type of sh*t they put tv these days, I wouldn't be surprised if I was to see it on tv.

I thought that the slogan was a riff on the Exorcist. Very nice. As for anyone who's offended, I'm sure when Jesus comes back he'll sit us all down and tell us the punchline to the meaning of life and we'll all have a great laugh about it. Until then, I quote Ferris Bueller: "You can never go too far."

....couldn't have said it better. I'm down with that!

JESUS CHRIST! Whats wrong with you people?
If it wasn't for the fact that the billboards were so well cc'd and tracked.... I think you would just go to hell, right now!

That was the best thing I've seen here in a while. Great job, man. I really dig your work. You've got a nice clean style. Very pro. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.

The way this thread is going, I smell a lockdown.

thanks for all your comments! People are very understanding :-)

It seems more than ever that we have to be careful about what we say. But you have to make what you want. We decided to put together something we would like to see ourselves but something we dont see. It was actually part of a series of clips/sketches which were were going to submit to TV. We never did. Hence why I posted it here.

Some others are probably even more sensitive, so I'll leave them in the bag for now.
