Why I use the presets.
Why I use the presets.
For my workflow, the presets are a very useful tool.
After getting some "GREAT" advice, I learned how to name and save them to the "preset" dial (F1-F6) on the rear of the camera.
(turn dial to setting you want to re-define, go to setup menu, change settings, rename and save)
What I have found in just the first few months is that in most situations you are getting footage you have no control over. If I go in with a preset that I have in mind (or a couple) I can change angles and lighting so that I can get a better look to go with the results I want for the footage.
In post you can spend quite a while trying to duplicate such looks, and trying to add filters wihtout making the darks too dark and creating the look of over exposure.
I also found that it is easier to make slight adjustments with filters (if needed) once you have the good base footage captured.
My Settings:
F1 - Goldeneye (from this thread, have not used it yet, but had to have it!)
F2 - MTV 60i (Music Videos at 60i)
F3 - Spark (Factory, always like this one)
F4 - Sports (A must!)
F5 - MTV30p (Music Videos at 30p)
F6 - Epic (30p for weddings, softer look, -3 detail)
* Don't forget to set the WB, light is never a constant.
Thanks to the everyone who posted the settings in this thread, very useful.
