DVX Scene Settings - In Camera Looks

Hey all.

I do a lot of filming in nightclubs and have never really sat down to tweak any of the settings in the dvx i use.

Since the lighting in clubs are fairly dark and are lit with club lights and flashing strobes etc.... What do you guys reccomend I set the camera at?

Most of these videos will be played mainly online in the end...

Any responses will help and taken into consideration.

Thanks!

Quick question. I am shooting with a 100B - Race events behing the scenes - supercross - Freestyle ....lots of fast paced Motorcycles and so on

What would be the best format to shoot, 24p - 30i - 60i , Im new to the 100B any help would be more then appreciated

Thank you!

I'd say 60i for sure; higher framerates will capture more information, especially for fast paced sports. A slower framerate such as 24p may seem more dramatic and filmic for shooting movies, but I think it's too choppy for the fast movements of sports, I've tried filming snowboarding in 24p just to see what it was like, and to be honest wasn't impressed at all with the way it turned out, and went back to 60i.

Hope this helps.

Skate boarders are mostly shooting in 60i for that reason... SOME are now shooting 24p... they are basically "breaking the rules" trying to change the look of skate videos though.

what about 30p you ever try it....also what is the major difference between 60i and 30P? other them frame rate

Interlaced in essense doulbes the frame rate though at half the resolution... You havel half your frields (ever other one) in one frame then in the next 60th of a second you have the other half of the fields. So fast motion has no real chance of "strobbing" where as 24p certainly does and 30p does also just not as bad. (good compromise)

Hope that helped.

Try changing the shutter speed to 24,turn up the Master ped to +5,then camera setup to 7.5%. it's still gonna be dark but at least you'll see more detail in what you're shooting at. but dont point the lens directly to those bright flashing lights in nigtclubs coz it will harm the camera's ccd.

i shoot all my skating and snowboarding in 30p, so it's easier to extract the images, and I HATE interlaced personally. it looks a little cooler to slow it down in my opinion, but if you want your stuff very "video" looking instead of a little bit more "professional looking" then go for 60i

Nope. Not James Bond. Long before Pierce Brosnan took his turn as 007 in '95, John Huston released a very strange film in 1967, "Reflections in a Golden Eye" starring Marlon Brando & Elizabeth Taylor.

I used a Smead UltraColor Envelope 89532 (BLUE this time) for WHITE BALANCE. Add some adjustments in-camera and you've got a cheat on this weird look.

What are the recommended settings for low light to get the best image (least amount of noise)?

I understand that lighting is critical, but sometimes we can only shoot using available low light.

Thank you!
