Dvx Music video by female

Kevin,

That's more like it, I knew you had much more thoughtful commentary, thanks!

oh, and regarding the guy who was... effeminate or? I actually liked him, without having any context at all, I couldn't make out the words so maybe that would have explained it, I thought his "acting" was very natural, though I didn't like seeing his gut hanging out but I guess that was part of the trailer park theme.

Shawn,

OK your right, I didn't give it a fair shake by only watching 20 seconds, so I watched the whole thing and this is what I think...

Where is the creative Cinematography? Most of the shots were locked down or plain ordinary dolly shots. There were a couple really creative shots that I liked. The shots where the camera comes in over his head coming down his body to reveal the ants/termites below, and the dolly shot where the camera was in tight and the boys face was framed out really nicely.

The opening scene with the transvestite or whatever he is looks out of place. It’s a very average middle class looking house with a van in the driveway and a front porch that is cluttered with the average Joe six pack miscellaneous crap that detracts from the visual appeal of the shot. To me it looks like they just didn’t care where they shot this scene, as long as they got it for free. To me it is very important to make things visually unordinary, because that is what makes it interesting to watch. They should have moved the van and cleaned up the front porch for better lines. I personally would not have used that house or porch at all. If however he was in a run down trailer park he would look a lot better IMO.

As far as the pacing on the song on the action she depicted in the video they match up quite nicely and the mood of the song is right on with the images. I find that slow songs like this really have to be enjoyable to listen to in order to appreciate the music video. I found it very un-enjoyable listening to this song. I thought it was off pitch and in general quite horrible. In order to give an honest opinion I watched this not once all the way through, but 3x…Cringe. If I was to separate the video from the song I would enjoy the visuals more.

The music video has no real color palette to tie it all together. It’s very abstract which makes it hard to watch. It hurts my brain. In contrast I really enjoyed your piece Seattle Nights (http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=41566) because even though it was really slow the visuals were excellent and the music created the perfect mood for the cinematography.

An example of a slow song with the most basic visuals that really work is Cold Play's "Yellow".

The song is super slow and the video in my opinion is excellent in its simplicity.

“and don't let yourself be influenced by Monte, but let yourself be influenced by me! ;-)”

LOL, I am influenced by my own intuition. I am not the type to jump off a bridge just because the person in front of me did. I develop my own perspective on things, and my opinion is just that…and opinion. I am glad that people like this music video. Differing taste is what makes everyone unique. I don’t try to actively influence anyone, but I get inspired by other peoples work, and if I inspire people that see my work...great.

“did you see "Me and You and Everyone We know"? please tell me you liked it!! I have hope for you “

Yeah, I really liked it!

In conclusion I really hate one liner replies, and I don't think it was fair for monte or anyone to say you don't like someone's work and then not tell us why. This forum is great in the fact that it allows us to all give each other input and make our work better, and constructive criticism turns into just criticism without an explanation.

Peace…

I think that is one of the worst songs I've heard all year. And there's only 5 days left in this year.

I don't know if the video was too "artsy" or what, but I hated almost every second of it. Even after I turned off the volume I couldn't get into it in the least. I thought it was better suited for someone who is in need of inspiration to sleep.

I also don't think a point should be made that it was directed by girl. I'm half-asian. Noone ever says " WOW, look at this video...done by a guy who is fifty percent korean. Imagine that!"

Hahaha I'll have to agree with Slim on this one. The song lacked well, everything. And the video did nothing for me.

The song got old fast; boring, too mellow, too acidy......

The video was well done; I enjoyed it if even a bit too much of the same thing. I thought the idea fun and unique but the execution was average; too much of the same thing for too long.

Still; one of the morer original music vidoes I have seen in a while. I'd look for more work from the artist for sure (The filmmaker not the band)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, finally somebody recognized the fact that this was, if nothing else, a break from the tired and predictable MTV music videos! Granted, it had its flaws, but I really appreciated the fact that it was different, it had its own voice, and that alone is worthy of praise regardless of whether or not you "liked" it stylistically.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.... since when did we start letting women do this kind of thing? Listen, the 19th amendment let you guys vote.. that's it.

By the way that was a joke, and that was pretty neat video.

the director is from www.indieclub.com she's a regular poster there and i remember her posting for help and info when shooting the video. you can ask her questions there if you like, if she's still on the boards...haven't been there in over a year or so so i'm not sure.
