There are so many good films here, and some with notable performances, sets design, musical score, lighting, sound, etc.

I know a number of festivals have a mini Oscars of sorts. Any way to make a thread for an honorable mention? No prize, just the nod of excellence from your peers.

I want to vote best picture on a few, but other films that did not quite pull it all together still have exceptional accomplishments.

Any thoughts?

I think it'd be cool.

Maybe for the second round of voting there could be a list of "best ____" and we'd vote for those.

I really like this idea!

Maybe some awards that have never been done here before.
Best Score
Best Actor/Actress

Put more emphasis on the cast and the die hard composers who work their asses off! :thumbsup:

Well after all the voting is finished you could open up a NEW voting poll for best score from the best 10 or 15. then you could do the same with best picture and best actor. do one every week for a month and then see where it goes from there.

Or not. i am really curious to see who wins.
 
Seems the voting and participation grows with each fest. It just might be the right time.

The script festivals of old were less than exhilerating, but who can argue the success of the last one?

DVX is establishing itself as one of the best fests around.

Hey, maybe at some point filmmakers will start putting the DVX win credits on their films as well. Maybe they do already.

Be nice to have those other nods as well.

There are some great musical scores in this mix, and I know many of the crews / performers worked for squat. Let's give them credit for making this so dang awsome.

The winner of the fest is the director, and yeah they deserve something, but I think there are a lot of good actors, writers, composers, etc...who deserve to be recognized for their work too. Maybe it would prove too complex, though...
 
Well, last fest there was an award for Best Score/Sound, for Best Newcomer and for Creative Vision. I think thats enough.

But how about best opening Title? :D j/k
 
Just curious what people think. If there were Best Actor/Costume Designer/etc. categories, what would the prizes be? Camera equipment doesn't seem particularly appropriate. Or should they just be nominal awards?
 
Wait a minute! I was all of that....

You've got a point, but I just think it's maybe a little bit too much. And these awards go mostly to the Directors anyway. Those people helping on your short normally are not hanging around here at DVXuser. Some are, but very few.
 
I think to start with just the recognition would be nice. I also think that it would be nice if the Members here got to choose best actor, score, etc...
Rather than just a statement at the end of the fest.

They should have to go through the same voting process as the rest of us.

Agreed, but the guys who do the score definitely are. I would like to see a community vote for Best Score at least.

But they still have resumes!! Looks really nice to get a nod of recognition.

Oscar winners and nominees are not 'normally hanging around' the Academy either.

I don't know, based on some of the blood and sweat I've seen both performers and peripheral players put into this, I think a nod is due.

If nothing else, then a big round of applause.
