DVRACK HD on Mac

The current version is 1.1.1.

The application is in your utilities folder. Simply click on it, and select the get info menu choice.

OK. I updated to Bootcamp 1.1.1 and now I see 'Imaging Devices' within the Device Manager. My options are to Uninstall or Disable the iSight device. 'Remove' is not an option. Tried Uninstall, but it *conveniently* re-installed the driver the next time I booted up. I disabled it and things went better, although the video freezes up still in the field monitor. The DVR still opens up a new window when I try to play a clip. The controls do work on the clip. Not sure if that was my error or a fix with the new version of bootcamp to be honest. I'm not concerned though until I see if the upcoming patch fixes things.

The freeze-up in the field monitor is the 2GB memory issue. That should be corrected by the end of next week at the latest. We are putting the update through final QA testing right now.

Video displaying in a separate "active movie" window is a video driver issue - sounds like somehow the video overlay function is disabled. That's not the normal setting - maybe some other program turned down hardware acceleration on the video card. Certain programs do this automatically, like Camtasia, and they don't change it back when they close.

In Control Panels, go to Display. Go to the Settings tab, and click the Advanced button. In the Advanced Display properties, click on the Troubleshoot tab, and make sure the Hardware Acceleration slider is on Full.

If the Hardware Acceleration slider was already on Full, and the Active Movie windows still comes up, there's also a tab here with the name of your video card - if memory serves, the MBP has a Radeon X1800. There are controls specific to your video card that talk about "Video Overlay," and somehow that function is turned off. Once that function is turned back on, video will display in the field monitor like it should.

From the X1600 Overlay tab upon selection, I get this pop-up:
The overlay controls are automatically activated during playback of any video file type that supports overlay adjustments."

Then there are choices (slider bars) which are all inactive (greyed out).

Hardware acceleration was at full.

There is a PowerPlay function which indicates that it disables hardware acceleration when running on a battery, but I have the laptop plugged in. I disabled this just in case.

I'll keep playing with the settings and post the correct ones when I figure it out.

Thanks for the prayers but it still won't work

Thanks for the prayers but it still won't work

I am happy to see one person here got it to work and hope more people do and SM figure out what the heck is happening. I won't bother trying anymore. I must first say I would be damn reluctant to spend $500. 00 on software that might or might not work on my MacBook and I can honestly say nothing should be that difficult to install and get running. I called my Mac dealer and asked if there was anything peculiar with my particular MBP-17 and a loud "NO!" was the answer. Operator error? Maybe but with all the great coaching here and elsewhere I doubt it.
This is a great user group and I really appreciate all the help and good advice! I will probably spend my $500.00 towards a firestore.
And I still say SM-Port the software or go Universal ! Read and count the number of FCP users here and elsewhere, it just makes sense.

Hi!!

Try to install this:

I installed the last version (version 2, I think) in my PC and don't let me to install. I said it to Serious Magic and quickly send me this link. It worked and I could install the trial version.

Good luck. All we are pray for you. All we want that DVRack works for mac :2vrolijk_08:

Just in case anyone missed it, we are working on a Mac Native App that will do what DV Rack does.

No Bootcamp needed ;)

Since you again promote your "upcoming" HD product, maybe now you can give a ruff estimation on when to expect the release of it...?

But the first release will not include support for DVCProHD, is that correct?

Only one issue remains for me; the 2GB memory issue for MBP. The ActiveMovie Window/ Video Overlay problem turned out to be an AVI clip that I had imported to test out the new onion-skinning with the split screen function. Ryan, at Serious Magic tech support spent quite a bit of time to figure out how I had shot myself in the foot. So once the update is released, I hope to have no issues with DV Rack 2.0 HD under Bootcamp 1.1.1.

As to whether MacDrive 6.1.5 is playing nice, well, that's another story.

The memory issue should be fixed this week with a free update. We are calling the update 2.1, since it also adds some nice new features for HDV users that didn't make the initial release.

Well, DV Rack HD is available now, as is a description of its features (as well as a demo). I was hoping to consider your offering as well, but without even a preliminary feature list or an estimated time frame for delivery, I don't know if it would be wise to put off making a decision. Is there any information you can provide in this regard?

Thanks,
Kevin

There may be a little bit of confusion about the difference between DV Monitor, Ben's product, and DV Rack HD 2.0 and what each is capable of currently.

Red Lightning has released DV Monitor, but it doesn't have support of DVCProHD currently.

So, yes it does what DV Rack does now, but it doesn't do what DV Rack HD 2.0 does with DVCProHD footage.

David,

I may be mistaken, but I don't think that's true. DV Rack has scopes, direct to disk capture, and a number of other features, while as I read Red Lightning's press release, DV Monitor is merely a software monitor for DV footage, which does basically what FCP will do in terms of monitoring with the addition of a monitor calibration assistant. I would be delighted to learn that I am confused about that--if they have all of the features of DV Rack except for HD support, they may be closer to delivering an HD product than I was guessing. Bena, can you clarify?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Guys,

Sorry I can't give you any estimates of when, I have seen too many companies announce delivery dates, then miss them multiple times in a row. It just creates ill will towards the company. And you would not want us to rush out a product full of bugs.

If software development was like clock work I would have no trouble giving you a date.

We have HD working. We have Scopes. We are working on bullet proof recording.

DV Monitor is the first fruit of our efforts. We have things in store for our products that will make our users incredibly happy.

Hopefully we will have such a kick ass product that you will forget that other product even if you own it.

Hi all, my first post here.

Troubleshooting some dropouts while monitoring dvcpro hd from european HVX200 on HD Rack 2.0 HD (ten day trial) running on Mac Book Pro 2.16 (disk 5400, 1 gig ram). Running xp natively and have removed the isight driver. Was shooting 720p50. Do not yet know if the drop outs are in the recorded material and if so if they are on both on p2s and the material captured through dv rack. Waiting for fcp 5.1 crossgrade discs to arrive which is required for viewing 720p50.

DV rack worked perfectly on DV pd150.

The dropouts were displayed constantly no matter if I was recording or not. They might or might not have increased while the camera was moving. They didnt look 'digital', much more like old school analogue drop outs or even disturbances. One theory is that it is the firewire port on the camera that is broken.

Now, there is a bunch of stuff i need to verify in my own troubleshooting, but would like to just confirm that there is anybody there who is getting a clean image of 720p60 or 720p50 from the HVX200 while monitoring through DV RACK HD on a MacBookPro? Has anybody managed to actually record on one?

Any input appreciated!

The Field Monitor in DV Rack has a lower priority than the Recorder, so if the CPU can't keep up, recording should continue without frame drops while you will notice occasional hiccups in the Field Monitor.

One thing though is that a 5400 RPM drive is cutting it pretty close for capturing HD video. The drive may not be able to sustain the data transfer, especially with other I/O requests still going on from the OS for other stuff that is running.

I've been able to capture both 720 and 1080 without dropping frames from my HVX200 with a P4M 1.5GHz / 768MB RAM using a 7200RPM drive, running Windows XP Home.
