DVrack activation bug!

I now have DVrack working without the update! so I have to call SoftCrap and see if they can get it to install correctly without killing DVrack again... AND I don't have the Decoder working yet... so I have about 1/3 of the software working with 17 days and counting by tomorrow

Hey USLatin,

What did you do to get DV Rack working?

The tech guy at Softwrap told me to delete a bunch of folders/files under the shared documents (which I did) and then reinstall the program (which I did). They said this should fix the problem (which it didn't). The damn activation window keeps popping up every time I try to launch the program.

Can you tell me what you did to get it to work, in as much detail as you can? Thanks.

my problem was not being able to delete one of those folders... I finally figured out myself why I couldn't delete the "Softwrap" folder under c:/documents and settings/all users/ shared/softwrap... I had to uncheck the "read only" box under the folder's properties which I was able to uncheck even though it was faded out as if you didn't have the option to make the change that's all, and if I'm notmistaken you have a power book... I am running windows... so that won't help you...

once I deleted it I re-installed DVrack and it worked without asking to register it... I did however get a succesfull registration confirmation when I first tried to register DVrack with my product key...

I can't however install the patch now ( DVRack20HDPatch1b.EXE ) without it putting my DVrack in a registration loop where it asks to register and doesn't like anything you enter... also I can't run the decoder because that one is also stuck in an activation loop...

Things will get worse under Adobe. "Complimentary" support is being phased out shortly, and then you can buy a support subscription or pay $39 per call.

Serious Magic was a terrific company, and the activation problem has nothing to do with Serious Magic themselves -- it's a problem with Softwrap, their software, and their servers. Serious Magic's only problem is that they selected Softwrap as the vendor for protecting their software.

So both worlds suck... but I am sick of this (apologies in advance, sorry) SHI*...
Language like this get's you warned/banned from forums and sometimes they'll make you edit your post (better ones don't let you make the mistake  ) but you know what... that is what this is, nothing but S-H-X-X-T... I loooooove DVrack, and I mean love it! it gives me a .25 second delayed better than thou monitor, more thn a monitor, oh so much more.... but I have nothing... I have absolutely nothing! and they have my $500 that coul have gotten me a nice monitor, not a Marshall but a nice one, and yes I woud have had to get a converter too, and at the endo of the day I still wouldn't have all the fancy shmancy image analysis tools or the recording capabilities. no comparison you say?.... I agree, but you know what!: I would have something that works! my $500 would be serving me, not hiding from me!

I AM DONE WAITING!!! CALL ME ADOBE, BUT YOU BETTER HAVE IT FIXED AND NOT GIVE ME THE RUN-AROUND AGAIN!

till then I'll be a bad boy

Things will get BETTER with Adobe? What rock do you live under. I never had a problem getting through to Serious Magic, and they always did their best. Now I had to call about...yes, activation, and it took ten minutes before I could find the damned Adobe phone number that they so carefully hide so that you will have to deal with their idiotic web site instead of a real person for issues that are their responsibility in the first place. This is the same crap that made Microsoft and Symantec into the monsters they are. Adobe is a giant leap backward. Now we not only have infuriating software problems to deal with, but a company that will do anything in its power to avoid talking to us. At last, I am deadly sorry I wasted money on both DV rack and Ultra, exactly because a faceless monster like Adobe is now lurking at the threshold, ripping off cash while snarling away innocent victim customers. Take your Adobe and shove it!
(Nothing personal, it's the new faceless monster that angers me, not your futile hopes for improvement.)

twocathat,
I was making a joke! I know most of the Serious Magic gang personally. Great bunch of guys and I was NOT happy ADOBE took them over.
Sorry the smiley wasn't clear enough.

With that being said, DV RACK is a great program. Even if ADOBE now runs the show, I'll own it because it makes my life better.
I don't fault the guys at SM for selling out. I'm sure it worked out for them and I wish them the best.

OK. No offense intended. Enjoy!

Ok, so I didn't give up on Serious Magic and I decided that trashing the effort put
forth on 15 days of waiting and phone calls, so on and so forth was probably not
a good idea when I was so close...

Well said. I recently contacted Microsoft for an issue that is 100% WINXP bug and they told me that I had to pay 50 euros for any technical assistance, and this was AFTER 10 minutes that I described the problem in depth to them. ITS THEM THAT THEY SHOULD PAY ME... #$^@^%

Sure thing...

IF you at any point have a problem and need to uninstall and re-install the
whole thing, uninstall DVrack with the uninstall program that comes with it,
then un-install the Converter using your windows uninstaller application.
Then make sure to delete the Softwrap folder found by following
C:/documents and settings/all users/shared/Softwrap

ACTIVATION SCREEN
First of all, when you type your KEY in the two fields provided:
_You must not enter anything in the first and leave it as-is, with only
the pre-populated "SER" in there and nothing else... (CUNFUSING!!!
why have the damm field at all right?!)
_On the Second field you enter the whole product key MINUS the SER-
so, start with the 2 after the first dash and copy the whole thing to the end...
_If that doesn't work (and why the hell should it since nothing else does, right?)
then you disconnect your computer from the internet and start the program again
this time a different screen will pop up so that you can do it over the phone.

Heads up! You will need to register DVrack, download DVRack20HDPatch1b.exe,
and install it, to get the latest version with no bugs and all capabilities, BUT
you will need to re-register the damm thing...

When Re-registering after the patch was installed, I had to call SoftCrap (not
Adobe) and they asked me to e-mail them a file created by SoftCrap in the
Serious Magic Folder under C:/Program Files/Serious/DVrack 20 HD/DVrack2.sw2
Then they give this file to the technical support department which apparently
works 3 hours a day! They will then add your ID to their server so that the
activation works.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Adobe is already offering some support for DVrack, that's why you get re-directed
to Adobe when you click on DVrack under Support on the Serious Magic site... I
found Adobe staff to be much more willing and capable than SoftCrap's un-trained
people, but you will have to talk to SoftCrap if your Key isn't in their Servers so they
can add it.

:nads: Holy crap! You got me good SoftWrap!

:kali: now I'm mad!!!

LOL ... This whole activation is a nightmare.

I hope Adobe makes it so we can get an update that will solve any problems in case we ever have to uninstall, update or reactivate.

Thanks for that info.

I am assuming you purchased DV Rack HD 2.0? For us DV Rack 1 users, on a re-install, from memory, we do something like this: install DV Rack 1.0 SD, then update patch, then PowerPak upgrade, then PowerPak patch, then DV Rack HD 2.0 upgrade, then the HD 2.1 patch. I would hate this thing to fail in the field.

I want one install disk for DV Rack HD 2.0 and the latest patch, and be able to do this in the field, without the need for internet access and just input my serial/activation numbers or whatever reasonable protection method, as a paying user.

That said, the program itself is totally awesome.

sorry, but I just re-edited it
look again... it was confusing so hard to spell it out too

John, please don't mistake my use of the ball-kicking Nads...
I am the Green dude, SoftCrap is most defenitely the Yellow one! lol!!!

DV Rack versions prior to V2.0 were painless, but SM went to Softcrap with V2.0, and it's been a friggin nightmare. I too had problems, not upgrading from DV Rack 1.x + HDV Powerpak to DV Rack 2.0 HD, but with the 2.1 patch. Getting the patch to activate took six days of going back and forth with the Softcrap tech drones, IIRC.

I doubt Adobe will use Softcrap in any future products but Adobe's own activation system is widely despised as well, so I don't expect the problems to disappear, they'll just be different.

They assured to me that they won't, but we'll have to wit for a new release
