Hey guys:
i have been trying to join dvinfo for some time so i can pick their minds but no luck. i used my real name and address. i even emailed the boss and got no response. Do any of you guys have the same problem or am doing something wrong?

My understanding is that it takes a while to get registered over there. I tried myself hoping to share some A1 footage I've got (which is going to get posted here instead in about 5 minutes ;) ), and that was a couple weeks ago. Beyond confirming that it's not just you, though, I don't know much.

I was also unsuccessful at registering with dvinfo. It's too bad, as I often use an XL2 and have had questions specific to the camera that may have been answered there.

This forum rocks.

I got banned for not using my REAL name, lol. In the long run, I had the named changed and now it's all good. Chris, the head hancho over there, seems to just be a busy dude but he's cool though.

If you've got a Canon camera, please feel free to sign up over at XLCinema.com. We is Canon focused over there. And I don't think Shane's banned Jay yet...

I got banned for asking where someone else's and my posts had gone after a moderator had deleted them. They were not offensive posts and I was never sure why they were deleted. I don't bother with dvinfo anymore.

I like DVinfo a lot but not as much as DVXuser. Chris is a good guy and he runs it by himself. Not sure why it is taking so long to register. I have an e-mail of his that he responds to, but it is probably the one you already e-mailed.

I have been an active poster for some time, took more than a year to register, and now I forgot my password, yet cant seem to get it emailed to me. I have had a plethora of posts editied, refined and deleted, Chris calls it 'quality control'. I like the forums, but Chris and I have butted heads several times, his hypocrosy gets to me sometimes, but I try to abide by the rules to interact.

Call me a conformist I guess.

thats interesting. because it took me less than a 2 weeks to register and get activated. around maybe 4-10 days.

still i dont agree to their system of using real names.

I also don't like the real name requirement -- I'd prefer using the nom de guerre I always use.

Nevertheless, I got accepted into that "exclusive" place without too many hassles. I like that forum and the many smart contributors there.

BTW -- I've briefly met Chris twice, and I agree he's a hard working, modest, and nice guy. (I helped him get his first look at the Sony Z1)

LOL, I don't think Sahne will ever ban me. He's my twin brother.

lol, j/k.

Be patient and stick with dvinfo, its a great site, together with dxv they are an awesome resource. There are lots of event & corp people over there - as a filmmaker, you can learn a ton from these folks, and as an A-1 user, the non pana-centric orientation yeilds stuff you wont get hear. As an example, check out the A1 firmware upgrade poll over there.

Just be careful, because you can get banned for speaking your mind if you don't say the right thing or ask the right questions.

Hunter S. Thompson would surely be banned :)

I am long overdue for a good Hunter S. Thompson read. Ahh .... some great works he has written.

Woe to the man who tried to ban the Good Dr. from anything :) If you haven't yet, check out Proud Highway, a treasure for hardcore fans.

I like the site. The discussions are usually high caliber. However they are really are quick to bounce people they disagree with. It is a pain to sign up over there. I think the comment is right, the owner is just to busy to activate all the account request. It is probably worth actively trying to sign up if you are resigned to posting nothing contrary to the party line. If there is one thing I do not like over there it is the shills who talk up the supporting retailers of the site. The retailers name will get mentioned and all of a sudden 10 testimonials of outstanding service and products and best pricing etc. are posted. I have dealt with some of the sponsored retailers over there and have not had good experiences. I would have my posts deleted and be banned if I shared my honest negative experiences with the some of the site's sponsors.

I applied for membership too a bit ago, used my real name and all, but didn't seem to make the cut - at least not so far. Maybe they're just backlogged?

I actually don't have a lot of interest in posting there, I don't like the control factor, at all, and there seems to be a tension around the place that reminds me of my former workplace, but there are benefits to being a member, downloads and such, that would be nice other than just lurking, and there's always the chance I do have the answer to something someone has.

Overall, I much prefer this board, by far actually. A lot more friendly in a casual sense, real names or not.
