DVD authoring problem with HVX footage

Hi all,

I hope this is in the correct thread. I recently made a short film using the HVX200 for the first time and am having major issues with the DVD authoring process. Here are the general clip/sequence settings:

Frame size: 1280 by 1080 (?!)
Vid rate: 23.98
Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080p30

So far all the DVD I have authored look horrible, i.e. the image looks very grainy and interlaced. At this point I'd like to export the sequence to a decent looking SD DVD and I have tried this tutorial:

http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/hdv_timeline_to_sd_dvd.html

But DVD Studio Pro said the file is in incompatible format.

Does anyone know how to author HD DVD or the best way to export HD footage to SD DVD without severely lowering the quality?

I am desperately in need of help. :crybaby: Thanks!

It sounds as if your videofile is still in HD (however the settings look like - strange settings somewhere between 720 and 1080...). So first of all make sure that your master file looks good in SD. Therefor create a new sequence in FCP with SD-settings and copy/paste your whole session inside (you can also use MPG-Stramclip to downconcert). After all start working with the DVD-Authoring.

Cheers

Thomas.

For SD DVD, export QuickTime/self contained/current settings/audio and video/no recompression.

Open Compressor, and choose the SD DVD preset that corresponds to your video file in total minutes.

Take the m2v and dolby2 files in DVD SP and author.

Unless you have a HD DVD set top, and none have been sold for the last three years, any HD DVD can only be played on later Macs.

Blu ray isn't supported in DVD SP.
