is it possible to log dvcpro100 footage to a windows-laptop without needing p2 cards?
If yes, how?

With Canopus edius broadcast, you can capture HD over firewire.
(Or Avid express pro.)

I have a HVX and a MacBook Pro -- haven't bought any cards yet; waiting for better capacity/price. But I would love to do tests of HD footage in the meantime.

You can capture directly to FCP without P2 cards. Just select any other recording mode than 720PN and match it in your capture settings.
