DVCPRO HD to SD DVD

hi,
I just finished editing a short film, shot with the HVX200 in DVCPRO HD. The final film is progressive DVCPRO HD. For distribution and preview copies I want to make a SD DVD and I'm wondering what's the best way to downscale the film and get the best available quality?
Should I let the m2v-encoder (BitVice) handle it or is it better to downscale the DVCPRO HD-film first in FCP, and if so what codec is best for this?
Any help is very much appreciated!

my last shoot was shot in 720x24pn. Open FCP sequence and match your footage setting. do all your edits, etc. render out as QT (self contained). Bring that file into Compressor and render out to SD 720x480 etc.

It's probably better to let FCP downscale it first. Export from FCP a 720x480 mpeg2 file since you are going to sd dvd. Then bring that file into compressor or whichever dvd authoring program you are using and it shouldn't have to recompress or anything. This has gotten me the best results.

Best,
Andy

I nest completed HD sequence into a 16:9 NTSC sequence. Export out of FCP as ProRes HD SD NTSC 16:9. Then import that into Compressor, encode to 16:9 MPEG-2. Then send to DVDSP and you're all set.
