Dueladapter

Hey, does anyone with a macbookpro and hvx have a dueladapter. I'm trying to find out how much time it would take to import media from a p2 card into final cut pro with the new adapter.

would you say its one of the quickest or easiest ways to import media? What is your workflow if you don't mind sharing.

It definitly beats direct camera hookup and does not tie up your camera.

I personally dump the cards through a PC laptop hooked to a usb drive, then xfer through MBP to a Mac external hdd. The PC laptop is also doubling as a monitor using DV Rack on location. (hee hee...get it "on location")

Direct to an external drive through the MBP using the Duel cuts out a step...but you still should back up the MXF files before you start ingesting.

I use the DuelAdapter and a MacBook Pro with my HVX and have worked a couple ways. If time is tight, using P2Genie to just quick dump the cards (preferably to two different hard drives) for later import into FCP is a very safe way to go. However, I just did a week long shoot where there was a good amount of downtime in between shooting and I logged everything into FCP straight from the P2 cards and then made a backup of the MXF files for safe keeping. This is even safer because you know everything is making it into FCP right away AND you have MXF backups. It does take more time during the process though.

Whatever you do, decide on a system and test it BEFORE going into a production situation, and then NEVER deviate from your system. It's too easy to loose data that way. A few months ago I lost some good shots because I deviated and it bit me.

Hey , what's P2Genie and how does it work?

That new fangled search engine called google is cool:

"P2 Genie is a small utility designed to make your P2 workflow easier. Insert your P2 Card, P2 Store, FS-100 (Windows only) or connect your Panasonic HVX-200 camera to your computer and P2 Genie will offload all your media to either an internal or external harddrive (or both) - all with the click of a single button (or none if you set it to "automatic")."

Seriously, just google p2genie and there's a whole web site explaining its operation and use.

the p2 genie did work great to just automaticly dump to computer or external hd. but he auto format to erase the card when finished flashes up format error. so you still have to reformat the p2 card in the camera. anyone else have this glitch?

i just ordered mine last week, should be here tommorow. it will be nice not having to mount using the camera, and doubling speed of offload will be awesome.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was on the road and forgot about this thread. Doh..

I import via the card reader into a folder named for the project and each card gets named Reel 1, 2, 3 etc. Then, when I have time, I copy the folder over to a external FW Hd to back-up everything up in the field.

When I get back to the office the portable drive is used to dump into the workstation or given to the producer on the project.
