Duel System: !!!!!!! Please help!!!!! find drivers

I recently upgraded (a friends copy) to Leopard. My duel systems adapter started to get buggy (worked a few times w/ suggested reboot) and now my MBP is not reading P2 cards at all. After pulling out some hair and trying to download every driver that I found mentioned on this forum, I have decided to go get my own copy of Leopard and do a fresh install and start from scratch.

I know that the duel systems adapter can work since it has worked in the past for me (it worked fine with tiger and I got a few offloads with Leopard). I am assuming that most of the people reporting back are having the same kind of driver based problems that I am having so . . .

David S. and others who are having success with with Leopard and DSA will you please (again) methodically describe the drivers necessary (links please) and the order in which you have installed them along with any other information that you may deem imperative?

Also is there any other free software from Panasonic out that will help to manage P2s once I get the DSA to work?

Maybe a sticky will come of it and we can all get to work. I for one am a bit frustrated with the time lost trying to get this DSA to work . I am anxious to learn more and get this P2 workflow to flow.

Help please . . .Thanks in advance

Fresh install of Leopard with OS upgrades, but don't install QT 7.4.

Stay with 7.3.1.

Download above.

Install the P2PCCard Install.pkg.

Reboot.

Repair permissions.

Once booted, plug in DA.

Plug write protected p2 card into DA.

It should mount. Copy card to desktop (make certain its a copy, not an alias creation.)

Eject card, but keep DA connected if you have additional cards

Repeat as necessary.

When done eject adapter and reboot machine.

Thank You David S.

It occurs to me that the QT update to 7.4 might have been the final blow to the little adapter that could. I will follow your instructions. I considered trading for a G4 Powerbook but I am hopeful that the steps you have outlined will work. Again, Thank You.

Moving from PC to Mac with Duel

Moving from PC to Mac with Duel

Sorry to come in late here, but I have a Duel Systems adaptor, and am moving over from PC to a Mac Pro (8 core) machine.

What do I need to run the adaptor on a Mac? A card?

Sounds like I am in for trouble as well, from the software end?

How do we get P2 cards to a Mac, please?

Thanks,

well if you're going to a desktop system its going to be a bit tougher to offload cards without using the camera. you can get the AJ-PCD20 P2 Drive which has usb and firewire connections and can hold 5 cards, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/455632-REG/Panasonic_AJ_PCD20_Panasonic_AJPCD20_P2_Drive.html but its $1900.

if you still own your pc i'd recomend still using it for offloading the cards. get a nice fast 2.5" portable drive that has usb 2.0 and fw800 and format it fat 32 and just use that as your p2 drive. lacie makes those portable rugged drives that are pretty good.

i've heard few people have no problems with fcp version 6.0.2 but i've heard a looot of people have issues. it pretty much breaks the p2 import function.

A couple of ways to get p2 cards to a Mac?

1. Use the Firewire connect mode on your desktop;

2. Many use the USB connect mode, but it doesn't always work;

3. Use a MBP with the duel adapter and copy to the MPB, and then put it into the firewire target mode and copy to the desktop;

4. Copy the ingested cards from the MBP with a buspowered firewire or USB2 drive and then copy to the desktop.

5. Use a p2 store or other p2 reader (pricey)

In all cases, write protect the card before mounting it.

Specialized Communications is said to be developing a PCI-E card for a Mac, but haven't seen it.

I just upgraded my old PowerBook to a MBP with current versions of Leopard and QuickTime on it. Can anyone tell me whether the Duel Adaptor works with the current versions of QT, Leopard and FCP yet?

Thanks,
Kevin

I used 10.5.2 and QT 7.4.1 with the duel adapter and it mounts.

I just use that combination to offload data, not edit

They also haven't updated their software for Vista Ultimate 64 nor for the HP laptops.
I loved the Duel Adaptor, but they have fallen behind and don't seem to care from my last couple calls to them. :furious3:

Thanks for the info, David S. I am looking at the Duel Adaptor simply for offloading as well, so I may as well go ahead with my purchase.

Was your version of OSX and quicktime preinstalled? (new computer)
I just got a new mbp, so wondering if this is an issue if you upgrade your software or not.

No, it wasn't preinstalled. It was just installed. :)

Seriously, I have done two clean installs of Leopard and updates since I bought the MBP. It originally had Tiger.

So yes, it essentially was a new computer install.

I try to keep my page of P2 and duel adapter drivers updated. Where possible, I include older versions so if people have stability problems there are some options.

Your page ABSOLUTELY RULES!

Too bad a big company like Panasonic can't make a great page like this.

But their loss is your gain. (not that you are getting money from it though)
Maybe they can put your link on their site? Might be worth shooting them an email.

Going through that Panasonic downloads page is like walking through a warzone.
You don't exactly know where you are going, looking for, and you have to watch your every step and move if you want to make it out alive.

I just gave up on it months ago.

The product is totally unreliable.

Even when you have the right updates and drivers, it still ends up crashing at some point. And Duel Systems support is almost completely non existent with helping you out. I bought it to download P2 content. Not to spend the day re-installing previous OSX's and QT's versions. That got old real fast.

Buy a powerbook or P2store and save yourself the headache.

Remember when it first came out? it had outdated drivers. Duel Systems should of had the decency to stop selling it, fix it, and take back all the ones that where sold and replace them.

Thanks!

I got a sponsor and run google ads so the page at least pays for itself. I'm actually a little surprised I haven't gotten a "cease and decist" order yet. The page ranks better than the Panasonic website for most relevant phrases in Google.

Just being able to contribute to the user community is rewarding, too.

Thank God.
Also, I can't really picture them sending you the C&D, unless if it's out of pure jealousy. Who the hell is the webmaster for their page anyway?
