HVX Users: UNITE!

I think many of us face something that Architects faced when they appeared. Video advertising and communication are now becoming more and more important in the current world. We see video on shopping malls, streets, museums, airports, subways, etc, etc as well as on regular broadcast means like TV. Cable exploded the offer for TV content, and regional TV's opened doors for more focused regional advertising. All this is happening at the same time as new individuals come and embrace the industry. But this brings new challenges to this so called new generation of Video Professionals.

Why?

Not unlike what Architects had to face when they appeared, people believed anyone could design a building or a site. However, it was with time that people started to see that what architects added to construction was art, beauty, quality and a better product.

The same goes for this new generation of professionals that dedicate thenselves to the craft of videomaking. I call it videomaking to the guys doing shooting, editing, composing and distributing with QUALITY.

Once again, like someone said, if your work has quality, than it will shine trough, and people will pay the price you deserve. The other guys that pay bad even after seeing your work... They wouldn't know the difference between a color corrected 25p with nice DOF shot from a regular consumer mini dv 60 i shot taken randomly without care.

One has to, however, show its stuff before starting to ask quality prices, tough. I suggest doing for yourself either a short film where you put all your effort into it (camerawork, editing, directing), and try going trough the festival route. Use the name of your company or yourself as much as you can with the short film. If it is good and is taken notice, that's fabulous publicity (and eyecandy) for you to have in your arsenal.

Another suggestion is shooting a bogus commercial, and applying all your know how like you did in the short movie mentioned above.

Doing both, if they have quality, should be enough to show your versatility and how you "know the language"...

As for the Union or association, I would certainly like to be part of it... :)
