Official word from Panasonic Website:

DuelAdapter on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
P2 card in a DuelAdapter is not recognized on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard), since there is no DuelAdapter driver software for Mac OS 10.6.
Please use DuelAdapter on 10.5(Leopard).
When using a P2 card on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) of MacBookPro, please use a P2 camera, P2 recoder or P2 drive equiped with USB2.

I just got off of the phone with Duel Systems technical support. The guy I talked to confirmed that a duel adapter driver is not included in Snow Leopard and said that he does not know whether they are going to write drivers for Snow Leopard or not, or if they do decide to write drivers, when they might be available.

Their advice is not to update to Snow Leopard, perhaps ever, I guess, if they decide not to write drivers.

I talked to Apple tech. support and Duel tech support about this today.

Apple tech. said they are waiting on Duel and/or Panasonic to provide drivers.

Duel said they were waiting on Panasonic to provide drivers.

I will now call Panasonic.

I just want to know what the time frame is on the driver development. I updated to Snow Leopard on a whim (mistake, yes) on the 28th, and then the Panasonic PASS Support Team sent out there incompatibility notice via email on the 30th- two days after the Snow Leopard release. Thanks for the forewarning guys... Don't people actually work and/or communicate anymore?!

Right now I'm dumping via USB 2.0 from the HPX500, but that does take a long time. :(

What I do know going through this with the upgrade to Leopard originally was that the people at Duel say Apple wrote the driver for the adapter in OSX 10.5 which took them by surprise. They said the other night that they were equally blind-sided when it was omitted from 10.6.

There is nothing Panasonic has to do. The Panasonic driver is fine in Snow Leopard as HDLog and ShotputPro work fine on my MacPRo running Snow Leopard.

In my mind it lies squarely on Duel Systems to be aware and in touch with Apple about the updating of drivers. This update has been very publicly awaited for nearly as long as Leopard has been around. I'm a little tired of seeing the ball get passed. Let's Go DUEL!

I received an email today in response to my inquiry to Duel Systems tech support regarding compatibility with Snow Leopard:

"The DuelAdapter is no longer supported under the 10.6 Snow Leopard Operating System. Apple has excluded key features to make our drivers functional, please feel free to contact Apple if you have any complaints or questions based on their decision to stop their DuelDriver support."

I would share my reaction to this response from Duel Systems, but I do not believe it is suitable for printing in a public place.

I asked them to explain what key features were excluded. I believe it's incumbent upon a manufacturer to be on top of what's going on with operating systems and updates to at least have an answer instead of just passing the buck.
For now my MBP stays 10.5

For anyone that has updated have you found a difference with 10.6.1?

oh well. my MBP really only has one primary job anyway and thats offloading P2 cards and. i dont see anything in snow leopard that was going to radically improve my workflow anyway...

Y have updated, but since my second duel adapter broke just a week before my update I cannot test anything (especially as Duel is stopping the shipping of their adapters)

Just found this thread and unfortunately too late for my own good.

This really SUCKS!

I'm on a location and the only laptop available is running 10.6, who's to blame? Apple, Duel?
Anyway apparently they are pushing to each other and we the consumers who paid several dollars for their products are left behind.

Another reason to abandon P2 cards...

Sucks!

I received the following response to my follow-up questions to the Duel Systems email I quoted above.

"It's not that the drivers are the issue, it'f the fact that with the recent exclusion of the ExpressCard interface with the new Macbooks, and they are leaving key components out of the kernel for us to emulate a PCCard slot through an express card interface. We have all the parts to make the car, with no road to drive on."

An interesting position for them to take, given that the new 17" MacBookPros still have an expresscard slot, and there are no reports of which I am aware of expresscard slots not working under Snow Leopard on older 15" MBPs with expresscard slots. Something fishy seems to be going on here. Could it be that duel Systems simply does not want to write new drivers?

I don't know what it is with this adapter, but I cannot rely on it anymore. It worked fine, till two weeks ago. I didn't update to SL at all. Maybe a regular update for my Macbook Pro, but since two weeks it sometimes recognized the adapter and more times it doesn't. I had a shoot today and brought my Macbook Pro with the adapter to offload the footage. Again it didn't recognized it. I was fortunate that I had the time to connect the camera to offload, because the footage fitted on 2 cards. But the situation won't be like that all the time.

Frustrating stuff!

Yeah, it seems like both the hardware and the company's support of it are proving unreliable. I have been looking for an inexpensive alternative to the duel adapter since learning there are no Snow Leopard drivers, and the best idea so far seems to be Barry Green's suggestion of buying a cheap Windows laptop for use as a download machine. I have emailed Duel Systems to see if there Windows driver would work on a Snow Leopard MBP running Windows under Boot Camp, but I have little expectation that this will end up being the solution.

It's been said a million times, but I can't get it out of my head! Why does this P2 offload workflow have to be such a difficult process? I love P2 but hate all BS things like this!

i find it odd that since this forums members probably make up the majority of duel systems duel adapter customers. that they wouldnt have actively posted here to validate their position on the subject...

Just to bring everyone up to date on what I have heard from Duel Systems concerning the duel adapter and Snow Leopard.

From Duel Systems' email responding to my follow up questions on their earlier emails:

"As of this time there will be no more support from the DuelAdapter support team on the 10.6 operating system now."

And in response to my question concerning use of the Windows drivers in Boot Camp:

"The DuelAdapter has been known to work under Boot Camp before and is indeed supported. You would need to install this driver: http://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/files/Duel_Adapter_Installer_Windows_1.0.1.zip"

Possible final word from Duel????

This is just unacceptable:
The DuelAdapter will not work with the 10.6 update.* To get the DuelAdapter to work on your machine you would need to downgrade to 10.5.* There will be no continued support for the 10.6 operating system at anytime.

Thank you for contacting the DuelAdapter email support.
