DSLR vs Consumer...?

Are you really shooting at 11mm very often? I guess it could make sense for music videos, but I'm having trouble thinking of many narrative applications.

Hell yes. Whenever I can use it I do so. I am obsessed with distorted hyper-wide and well-composed imagery, even more so when it's moving. The surreal quality is something I really love.

I also like to do scenery, just for myself, in 4K @ the 11mm end. Sometimes forcing foreground objects against sky shots, like a foot on the beach. And I'll literally just sit there and watch it on my 42" 1080 Samsung LCD. S'like being there, man.

I want to try the 18-200. Doesn't that lens have a VR function? Seriously would be killer for handheld application.

It's VR, yeah. I shot some really nice stuff with it (stills) shortly before I became a cripple, but I haven't had access to my desktop machine until today. I'll try to post them soon.

A lot of them are at the wide end, and there's something very cool and surreal about it, but I do get sick of it. I used to go through long periods where I wouldn't touch my 17-35mm. And then I'd go through a nothing-but-17mm phase for a while, and then get burned out on it again... but again this is all stills I'm talking about.

I used an 18-200, 28, and 50 in a 10 min short i'm f*cking up, I mean working on in post now. The 50 and 28 were always on sticks or a dolly (even though Zac F showed you can 28mm can get good hand held stuff provided you don't have DTs), but at full wide the 18-200 allowed some leeway; shooting in a really tight space as we were it was priceless, got some pretty unusual shots at 18 and allowing for the fact that it's a little slower but having everything well lit anyway we got some pretty nice handheld stuff that would've been impossible with said others. VR was on. Kholi the method you put up yonks ago helped a lot too both for manual and af.
