Drama-Fest Information

HA HA Nice one JDS...but not altogether far fetched. I was checking into another contest a while back, and one of the requirements was just what you said (minus the hard copy with the thumbprint). But it to clearly show you with the camera and also either the LCD or on-set monitor showing a scene that appears in the film.

You have to submit a picture of yourself on set holding your camera.
Also the picture must be from scene that stays in your final cut.
You must send a hard copy of the photo which bears your thumbprint in the left hand corner.

Mik goes out to buy photoshop.

Mik realize that in the U.S. does not have Mik fingerprints.

Seriously guys it was something that bugged me; is not that i wont to cheat (in fact, i wanted to make a short only for exibition), i was curious on how to...

i was wondering if six minutes and two seconds is okay? if not i can cut it, im just curious?

2 seconds over is fine.. as long as your happy being disqualified :)

heh heh heh.. seriously though, we gotta draw the line or 2 seconds turns into 30.

you could do the trick where you make your credits the last frame, and when Quicktime sticks at the end, it shows the credits indefinitly.

TimurCivan, are you SURE I we can still upload tomorrow? If so, what is the absolute latest time for the deadline?

yeah, I think the deadline is tomorrow night, not tonight. right? and just for the heck of it, is the deadline relative to time-zones? or is it midnight of the earliest zone, or the latest?

I am a moron, I shot in 4:3 on my DVX!!!
You are secretly very wise.
That is the way almost everyone gets 16X9 out of their DVX. Now you can reframe in post. 2 of my 4 DVXfest films were shot 4:3 for 16X9 output.

If you are FCP it is a piece of cake and the quality will be good. let me know and I can walk you through it.

Shooting 4:3 and cropping is the way to go man! :)

I'm exporting a 4:3 avi file from Premiere, opening it Quicktime Pro, and encoding it (H264) for the upload. QTpro will let me crop the file when setting the dimensions (height and width), so my final product will be 16:9.

I hope this is the right way to do it - it seems to work for me.
Brandon - I take it my process is the "right" way then?

here's another question - how do I make the mpeg 16:9 for the DVD? do I just leave it full-frame (4:3 with letterbox)?

You bet! Make a 16:9 anamorphic file, by stretching your cropped 4:3 footage. That's what I do. Not sure HOW to do this in Premiere though.

ok, I'm not sure what this means. I feel a little dumb, but then again, I've never done it before. I'll figure it out.

just to be clear - the deadline is by the end of tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan 31), right?
