Drama-Fest Information

but it's a good question, as the scoring system has been skewed towards the technical side and one of the goals is to get away from that this time.
I agree 100%. Especially with this being a Drama festival!

This SciFi channel / Sundance contest desperatecomfort and I are entering scores the films in the following manner:
Creativity (40%)
Originality (40%)
Technical Skill (20%)

... which are a little vague / mushy.
Yes, vague - but I like it! I'm not sure that would work for dvxuser though. People here tend to focus on the technical aspects more than anything.

but categories for ...
directing
script
X factor (it just worked for you)
acting
Score

Yes to all of the above.

....
cinematography
editing
sound design

....
...which we had for Horrorfest

optional VFX that doesn't count against the film if left blank

basically that adds Directing and X factor to the old ballot and scraps lighting which is somewhat redundant (though not wholly redundant) with cinematography, IMO. Even if you keep lighting that divides it 50/50 creative tech (it's all creative) vs. non tech dependent creative.
I think directing would be a great addition to the score, as well as X factor.

This being DramaFest, I think that the criteria should be much different than, say, HorrorFest, because of what it is. Drama requires acting talent and I think acting and directing should have much more focus than in the past.

The voting system is going to be very simple this time around and the biggest factor will be the overall quality of each film. The core of this fest is the ability to tell a coherent story in six minutes. If your film's technical aspects support the story, they're going to play a big factor. If they're window dressing on a weak story, then they're not going to matter. A strong core idea and story will trump a film with loads of style and no substance.

Is technical quality going to be essential in this contest, or are the pure narrative elements most important?

The X Factor is cool, and it would be interesting to see a film that would normally perhaps have ranked outside of the top ten because of the individual technical aspects we all look at, yet for some reason was our favorite & managed to get 'favorite film', etc (ala Audience Favorite award, etc.).

For DramaFest, it would also be cool to have a best Actor/Actress role, if possible, simply because these will likely be very performance driven.

credits plus

credits plus

i don't want to enter, but i just wanted to know if this has been asked. if the short is 6mins and the credits is a minute that woulnd't knock it out of the running would it?

yeah technically it would.
it's an issue of bandwidth, etc.
for the fests, people whose films run near six minutes put their credits in the discussion thread associated with the film, put them all on a single frame at the end, or have them whiz by superfast.

That's 6 minutes total--including credits. You want to do a one minute film with five minutes of credits--hokay! Honestly, I wouldn't include more than 15 seconds of credits with a 5:45 film, but you're the director. :)

I am happy to say that a family members puppy has anihlated my computer.

Meaning.

I have to wait untill mid-december before getting a new modem, power-line, computer wires, various other things or just buy a new computer. So lucky for everyone. I won't be on. Right now I'm using a computer at work. Which is proving to be..boring since most sites are blocked.

For what it is worth, when you click on the DRAMAFEST icon (down in the forum list where it says its been moved to the top, baby) you get transported to .... HORRORFEST! I suspect J-Dan is behind this and who am I to disuade more views of REKINDLED ? :)
