I agree 100%. Especially with this being a Drama festival!Jack Daniel Stanley said:but it's a good question, as the scoring system has been skewed towards the technical side and one of the goals is to get away from that this time.
Yes, vague - but I like it! I'm not sure that would work for dvxuser though. People here tend to focus on the technical aspects more than anything. This SciFi channel / Sundance contest desperatecomfort and I are entering scores the films in the following manner:
Creativity (40%)
Originality (40%)
Technical Skill (20%)
... which are a little vague / mushy.
Yes to all of the above.but categories for ...
directing
script
X factor (it just worked for you)
acting
Score
...which we had for Horrorfest....
cinematography
editing
sound design
....
I think directing would be a great addition to the score, as well as X factor.optional VFX that doesn't count against the film if left blank
basically that adds Directing and X factor to the old ballot and scraps lighting which is somewhat redundant (though not wholly redundant) with cinematography, IMO. Even if you keep lighting that divides it 50/50 creative tech (it's all creative) vs. non tech dependent creative.
This being DramaFest, I think that the criteria should be much different than, say, HorrorFest, because of what it is. Drama requires acting talent and I think acting and directing should have much more focus than in the past.
