Downloading MXF`s via firewire?

Damn, I feel stupid but no search returned ma a way to download HVX footage to usual desktop computer via firewire or USB. I quess there just isn`t any.

I`ve always used my laptop to download MXFs from PCMCIA slot on set but now when I just want to download those files via firewire there just doesn`t seem to be a way of doing that. And even connecting USB just freezes HVX.
Is it really true that only way to download from P2 is laptop with PCMCIA slot or recording directly to disk?

I`m so fustrated here as I had to cancel a meeting with local Canon rep because I couldn`t download footage directly from camera.

I quess there must be some hidden menu option or something that enables direct MXF firewire download from camera.

Please help me,
T

There is. But you have to specify mac or pc: if you're on the PC, you must not use firewire to offload MXF files, you have to use USB; if you're on the mac you must not use USB, you have to use firewire.

Install the P2 drivers on your computer. Set the other functions->PC MODE menu setting to USB Device (for PC) or 1394 Device (for Mac). Set the camera to PC mode (go to MCR mode and hold the button down for four seconds). At that point the cards' contents will show up on your desktop as removable storage devices.

Thanks Barry, that was exactly what I was doing wrong, I set it to firewire but I was on a PC.

Best regards,
T
