FEATURE: "DOWN AND DANGEROUS" - new update, one year later.

I love the overall look of the poster, But I have to be honest, the upsidedown image didn't work for me, here's why, I was looking for a puddle, or something to try to understand why he would be upside down, in that I didn't notice the building in the backround, or the lines of blow. Now that I have studied it, I can see all the elements but they didn't pop at first glance. But thats just me, and could be my warped view of things:).

i didn't have the same problem as maran. For me, it was readily interpreted as his reflection in the mirror/glass that those lines were sitting on. My brain just kept looking for upside down letters :)

I like it.

I kind of did have the same problem as Maran. I didn't understand the upside-down intuitively as a mirror reflection; it looked more like ... an upside-down poster...

Thanks for the thoughts on the poster! I wanted to see if i could pull off something that, the longer you look at it, the more is revealed. I don't know if it's having the effect i want (motivating people to absorb our key art beyond just a glance) but we also have our B poster, which was designed to emphasize the action in the movie. you can see that on our web site if you click on the link for The Posters.

And some very good news. We just received our first festival acceptance. Will announce the name when the fest gives me the okay.

So late last night, the festival began its twitter and facebook campaign of "leaking" the titles of movies they selected before the official program is announced. And we were the first movie they let slip. I scrambled a bit last night to get an update out to our kickstarter backers and this morning I'm making it known everywhere else.

We're very proud and honored to have been selected by the Phoenix Film Festival to play in competition this year.

Last year, the festival drew an audience of over 23,000 people and is widely respected as one of the top festivals in the country. Now in its thirteenth year, it has been renowned as a favorite destination for audiences and filmmakers alike. In fact, MovieMaker Magazine named it one of The 25 Coolest Film Festivals and it is often cited as the most filmmaker-friendly festival out there.

We're all super-excited to move out of post production and begin sharing this movie with the people who made it possible, as well as new audiences.

excellent. congrats.

Yesterday, I got a can of coca-cola in the mail, and at first I was like... who tf is Paul and why did he send me a can of coke? Then, it all made sense as I read.

Nice, gift. Nice easter egg hunt :)

Very cool.

People have been following this production for a long time, and many have even contributed through Kickstarter - and the excitement has been mounting and mounting. The various update reports and snippets of posters and the like have served to even accelerate the excitement and keep people in the loop, which is important in building an audience for the movie at the grass-roots level (assuming a distributor doesn't buy it and pour their own promotion and marketing $ in addition!). For some this is perhaps the most exciting period of time, even outshining the eventual release or watching of the film itself, especially at a place like dvxuser, where the process of filmmaking is more of a focus than the experience of film itself from a viewer point of view (of course, anyone who is on here is a movie fan by definition, but most here are focused on the tech and the mechanics). This is a much honored thread, and it follows - so far - the trajectory of similar, and also celebrated threads, like by taormina, deuce of spades, matt sconce etc.; the trajectory is a well-known one of mounting excitement right up until the very peak right before release - with many very successful after release too, like the inspiring story of deuce of spades and the guts and determination of the director and even eventual financial success (rare!) of the movie itself, others have had a more mixed reception to the movie itself, but which launched a successful career nonetheless (Adamo), or have gone on to make more films (matt) and so forth.

So it will be exciting to see this play out here too, and with all the well-wishes this has already been a huge success (actually, just finishing a movie is a success in itself, so this has been a GIANT success whatever happens!).

Festivals are a great place to see exciting new films and it's marvelous that the film has already been accepted at a festival where many dvxusers can have a chance to see it. The excitement is mounting ever higher, the trajectory pointing straight at the moon- - -

Congratulations!

Something strange is happening. A few of our backers have contacted us to say they found a video cassette with a striking resemblance to our movie, only this would have to have been made in the late 1980s, maybe early 1990s to have been released on this format. One of these tapes was discovered in a dumpster behind an old Blockbuster Video (I didn't ask what they were doing back there). They sent us this picture.

Then on Facebook, "Phyllis" uploaded a discovery of her own and relayed the following story: "Cleaning out the attic this past weekend I found this old movie... Hmmmm... 34 years I've had the same house and although the face on the VHS looks familiar, I can't quite place it...How did this get in my attic and who is this?"

And not long after, "Todd" from Beaverton, OR had found one too. He noted something unusual about the tape, "Found this movie at Mariner Market in Cannon Beach. It caught my eye because the guy on the front cover looks like this dude I used to see at Software Pipeline. The thing I can't figure out is at the bottom it has a link: www.whereismichaelcaine.com and under that it says, "FIND THE HIDDEN TEXT". Wish I could watch this movie..."

Then a fellow named "Steve" who lives here in Los Angeles came across yet another. "Found this in the archives at Warner Bros today. One of my favorite actors is in it. If only I had a VHS player!" Then it hit really close to home because even my mom discovered one. She said, "I found this old vhs movie in the trash. I have a neighbor who was cleaning out the attic treasures. Anyone have a vcr?"

Not sure what's going on, or where these came from. Nobody seems to have a VCR handy so we can watch it. Boy, I'd REALLY like to see some footage from it… maybe that web address will provide a clue. I went there but all I saw was some lame Michael Caine fan site that tracks where and what he's working on. Strange. Maybe you can do better.

What's fake lustgarten?

We reached a completely unexpected and marvelous milestone today. The combined view counts on the Down and Dangerous trailer across youtube and vimeo has just exceeded 10,000 viewers.

Hi,
This has been a fascinating and inspiring thread to read. Congrats on the film. I was just wondering if an external recorder was used with the Af100 on the shoot? And what was your basic post-production workflow? Any info would be much appreciated.
