A couple of questions for those of you who have experience with 2x teleconverters on HDSLR's:
I've done plenty of reading about them and a few things still aren't clear. I know there is a 2-stop light loss for 2x converters. Does this 2-stop light loss also correlate to a change in DOF? ie will a 200mm @ f/2.8 behave exactly like a 400mm f/5.6? Or will it have the DOF of 400mm @ f/2.8 but be two stops darker?
Also there is all sorts of info saying adaptors are not compatible with EF-S lenses, and other info saying they cannot be used with EF-S bodies or lenses. My understanding though is that any lens (a converter being a lens) that fits the EF bodies will also work on EF-S bodies. I can understand EF-S lenses not linking with the adapter (just as EF-S lenses don't work on EF bodies), but is there anything that would prevent any converter being incompatible with EF-S bodies?
More specifically, I am looking at the Kenko Teleplus & Teleplus Pro 2x converters. Does anyone have experience with these particular models? Anybody able to comment on the quality difference between them, particularly in video mode where I would assume it would be less noticeable?
Regarding AF/AE most of the modern converters say they have AF capability and "full metering." Does this mean that you can control aperture through the body like with any other EF or EF-S lens, or does it mean that the camera can only meter properly to get correct exposure in Av mode, or to tell you if you are over/underexposed, but can't actually control the iris through the body at all (like when you use manual lenses & adaptors)?
Looking forward to hearing all your replies!
