Does this Helios 44 on Ebay have a m42 mount?

I bought the Helios 44-2 and when it arrived it would not work with my T2i. I had the photodiox adapter, but when I screwed it in place, the focus was locked down.

After much research I learned that some 44-2s do not have enough room to mount a M42 to EOS adpter. I sent it back and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 44-4.

Some Helios 44-2s will work with the M42 to EOS adapter, but not all.

Hey Thanks Chris and Mark. I've been reading a lot of your writings on vintage lenses lately. Great stuff and very informative. Any recommendations for my next vintage lens purchase? Are there any interesting russian fish eyes?

Hello Mike,

You can take a look at this one: http://www.peleng8.com/
I would suggest that you ll read many reviews for that lens and decide if its ok for you or not...
Personally I got afraid of it and decided to search for the zenitar 16 which is a safe option in my opinion but it is not a fisheye on a crop sensor...

For Russian lenses I have the Mir 24. It's a 35mm f/2.0. It's a sweet lens and can be found in the $100-175 range. For a cheaper option there's the Mir 1 which is a 37mm 2.8 and is in the $40-70 range.

Since I shoot weddings and good low light performance is very important, I went with the faster and more expensive Mir 24.

For a wider lens, I have the Zenitar 16mm f/2.8. You can still find new stock for around $200 or sometimes find them used. $200 might seem a lot compared to the Helios, but when you start looking at other fisheye lenses, you will see anything less than $200 is really quite affordable for a fisheye.

Another thing about the Zenitar 16mm is to figure in the crop factor, which makes it more like a 25mm. You will see vertical lines become curved, espeically when they are on the outer edge of the shot, but it does not scream fisheye like it would on a full frame sensor.

Here an example with some Zenitar 16mm shots.

I need to correct the above post. The potential problem is not with the Helios 44-2. The potential problem is with the 44-3 Helios.

Here is a link that show the differences between the different years that the Helios 44-3 models were produced.
